Did somebody say… DIVISION 3!!*

Having beaten Bourton Vale last week to steal 3rd place, Cranham and Bourton with suffered washouts today, leaving us in bronze medal position and (as we understand), promotion to Division 3 of the Gloucestershire County League.
It’s a great achievement, putting us as the highest placed team with just one side - every other club above us had a second, third or even fourth team! Well done to Theo Nicholson for his first year of Captaincy, and to Alex Pockett for an outstanding year with the bat - averaging 63 and playing some incredible innings. Tons more people to thank, but it’s been a great year to be a Cranham player.

Did somebody say 5 in a row…

Cranham went to high flying Bourton knowing a win would see us jump above them into third - and an automatic promotion place. What we hadn’t anticipated was one of the best performances in recent years, with 50 from Theo and an unbeaten half century from Alex taking Cranham to a 9 wicket victory in rapid time. Max had set the standards, with 3-13 in 8 overs, before wickets for Tommy, Hamed, Theo and Eddie saw Bourton rolled out for 154.

Cranham now take on Whitminster at home next week in the knowledge that a win will see us promoted to Division 3…

A brilliant 5 wicket haul from skipper Theo Nicholson, and another half century from Alex Pockett took Cranham to victory in the derby game against Sheepscombe.

Victory! Gloucester Afghans won a thrilling game against their Bristol counterparts to take home the Etihad trophy! With Cranham first team regulars Hamed, Dawood and Mustafa, plus Ziyarmal, Lebas and Hamid who play on Wednesdays there was a great Cranham connection, and we are very proud that the win came on their home ground! 🇦🇫

On Saturday, Alex Pockett joined a group of just 4 players who have reached the milestone of 10,000 runs for Cranham - and there’s quite a family connection to this list. His dad, Buzz, achieved the feat first, followed by elder brother James a few years ago. All three are still some way behind club legend Alan Kempster, who probably still haunts the nightmares of many a local cricketer. His swashbuckling six hitting has him out in front in the run charts, and he also leads the way with 29 fabulous centuries. With James and Alex both still playing regularly there is a chance that his record could one day be broken. One record that almost certainly won’t is Buzz’s tally of over 1000 wickets - over 300 clear of second place. Arlo Pockett is the latest to don the Cranham shirt, making him a 4th generation player after his great-grandfather Jim first played for Cranham in the 1940s. Factor in opening batter Benn (cousin to James and Alex) as well, and there’s a wonderful family feel to an already familiar friendly club.

Every now and again we have a really special moment to celebrate. Today, Alex became just the 4th player in the history of Cranham CC to reach 10,000 runs. He did so today is a magnificent innings of 77 not out as Cranham dispatched Cinderford CC. Congratulations - and plenty more to come!
