We held our Finals Day today and saw lots of close games that went right to the end.
DAVID ANDREWS OPEN PAIRS (18 ends)
Angie Hiett & Pat McCarthy took on Declan Worsley & Malcolm McCarthy and started off with Angie & Pat taking the lead being 6-2 up at 4 ends and it was levelled 7-7 at 8 ends. After a few close ends, it was levelled again 10-10 at 11 ends and again 13-13 at 16 ends. Declan & Malcolm took the lead and were leading 13-15 on 17 ends and managed to win by 1 shot, 14-15 and giving them both a first win in the competition.
MENāS STEWART CUP (first to 21)
The final saw Brian Walsh making his first appearance in the final against Nigel Harris who last reached the final in 2023 when he lost to Roger - this year it was to be a new name on the trophy.
Brian stormed into an early lead being 19-10 ahead before Nigel completed the comeback of all comebacks to beat Brian 19-21 in one of the closest finals in recent years.
MENāS BENEVOLENT SINGLES (Handicapped)
The two Benevolent Singles matches were Alan Warnes making his first appearance in the final against Zac Busby who was in his 5th appearance since 2021 and Norman Coad who was also making his first appearance against Dave Juleff on his 6th appearance since 2017.
It started off with Alan leading 7-1 before Zac came back to lead 7-11 and it was levelled 11-11 and 12-12 before Zac went on to win 13-27.
Norman Coad & Dave Juleffās match proved to be a very close game with Norman taking an early lead being 6-1 up before Dave came back to level 6-6 and it was level again 7-7. Norman then retook the lead being 12-8 up but Dave came back to level again 12-12 and took the lead being 12-15 up. Norman then came back and retook the lead being 21-15 up with Dave coming back when it was level again 22-22. Norman then went on to win 29-22.
Norman Coad and Zac Busby will represent the club in the Benevolent Pairs for next season with a first win for Norman at the club and Zacās 5th win since 2021.
After a break for dinner came for the last 3 finals in the afternoon.
LADIESā TIPPETT SHIELD (18 ends)
The final saw Di Walsh making her first appearance, against Angie Hiett in her 4th appearance since 2021 and it was a close final with Angie leading 2-8 up before Di came back to lead 14-12 and went on to win 15-14.
MENāS TIPPETT SHIELD (18 ends)
The final saw Brian Walsh in his first appearance in the final of the competition against Dave Juleff in his 3rd appearance since 2017 and saw Dave taking an early lead being 0-8 up and 4-11 up. The game was then levelled 11-11 at 12 ends before Dave retook the lead to win 13-18 and giving him a 2nd win of the competition.
MENāS RHOADES PAIRS (18 ends)
The last final was Alan Warnes (in his first appearance in final) and Mike Best (first appearance since 2018) up against the Grampound Veterans of Norman Way (3rd appearance since 2017) and Roger Biddick (3rd appearance since 2021) and this was another close final with Alan & Mike taking an early lead being 4-2 up. Then it was level 4-4 and again 6-6 before Norman & Roger took the lead, 7-12 up. Alan & Mike then came back and it went into the last end 14-14 and Alan & Mike won by 1 shot, 15-14.
Well Done to all the winners and runners up and a big thank you to all the members who came down and supported the finalist, mark the games and to the Ladies in the kitchen for the food.
