Martham & District Angling Club This is the new page for Martham & District Angling Club. On it you will find Match Results There is even a Springtime League purely in the PIts.

Martham & District Angling Club was formed in 1984 with the break up of the old Hemsby Vikings Angling Club. The new club carried on the fishing rights to Martham Pits which it still has today, but due to the fantastic work of our members over the years it is a very different place to what it was 30 years ago. The club has always had a continual restocking program at the Pits and It's hard to believe that the first Carp were were put in in 1986, but are now the most prolific species in the Pits growing to over 20lb. This year we tried to get back to basics and over £5000 of Tench and Bream were stocked making the Pits an all round Fishery. The Club runs various Match Leagues including Coarse, Sea and Pike depending on the seasons, but there are various Coarse match leagues including Winter, Summer and Evening Leagues. The Club also has Boats on Rollesby Broad which are kept at the Sailing Club. Any Club member wishing to use one should contact Russel Smith first. At least twice a year the club has official away trips the last one being last Sunday to Decoy Lakes, Whittlesey, which was enjoyed by every one who attended, especially as the cost of the trips include a full English Breakfast and a Sunday Roast after the match. So it's easy to see with all that the club has to offer why the waiting list is so long. Also we want to make this a real Club page so any member can send us the photo's of their catches and we will post them on this page for you.

Ten on yesterday’s swindle, two sections of five covering pegs 2,6,8,10&12 and section two pegs 14,16,18,20&22. Noticeably cooler first thing too with a gentle west southwest breeze.

The fish epicentre has been 10-13 with the stand out best peg in Norfolk peg 12. No different today and when you stick an inform angler on it there’s only likely one result.

John Kiernan made no mistake with 71lb 8oz on the tip over to win section one and top weight on the day. Holmesy made a return and took second with 32lb 4oz of top kit caught carp and silvers, including some nice skimmers from peg 8.

Section two was taken apart by Manchester Mick, a mix of pole and tip caught fish from peg 14 giving him 60lb 12oz. The MO second with 20lb 2oz from peg 16.

The first section looked the best for some consistent sport, but nice to see different techniques scoring. Thanks to Dave C for organising and weighing in.

Next match is the swindle on the 24th.

Thursday the 10ths swindle looked another good match, decent weights for the seven competing.

Paying the top three and using the odd numbers from peg 7, it was that man John Kiernan again on peg 11 taking the top spot with 77lb 4oz.

In second from another form peg in number 9 was Manchester Mick with an ounce shy of 44lb. Completing the frame was Ian G on peg 13 with 33lb 8oz.

All competing look to have had a days fishing, many thanks to Dave C for organising and weighing in. Next Thursday’s swindle the only upcoming match.

The last of the summer league matches took place at Holly Farm Sunday gone.

Thirteen on, and I think for a relatively small lake it holds up pretty well.

Top spot went to the superstar Kev Clarke who extracted 43lb 10oz from peg 19.

In second place and only a fish behind was Wayne the frame Eden with 42lb 8oz from peg 12. Andy Holland completing the frame from the golden peg 7 with 32lb 9oz.

A good close match to finish a great Summer series, all eyes looking forward to the winter series that starts in October, a few weeks to do the summer to winter prep!

The eight anglers on yesterday’s swindle had a right old time of it, it’s fair to say the pits have been fishing well, and C pit particularly has given consistently good sport this year.

Another draw with room and two sections of four on the odd numbers, with the exception of peg 2. A bold move by the MO to leave peg 12 out with pegs 2, 7, 9, 11 in the first section and 13, 15, 17, 19 in the second, paid off though.

Stuart Leisi is back with a bang, a massive 81lb 2oz from peg 9 taking the first section. The MO taking second from peg 11 with 40lb 9oz, exactly half of Stuey’s total! I can’t remember a bigger weight off peg 9, the room (and access to 10 probably!) certainly helped.

In the top section it was the other form angler on peg 15 taking the win. John Kiernan with a superb 101lb 8oz, and if memory serves, the first ton plus weight outside of 10/11/12. Well done mate. Manchester Mick in second from peg 19 (another end peg!) with a lovely 58lb dead.

Brilliant results with an average of around 47lb per angler! Brilliant fishing by any measure, well done all involved.

Following the EGM held on the 9/9, confirmation of new incumbents into three committee roles:

Chairman - Peter Harwood
Treasurer - Andy Holland
Secretary - Ian Holmes

All other roles continue as they were and all roles of course will be elected/re-elected at the AGM.

Fifteen on last Sundays match at Barford on a decent late summers day.

Dean Prosser with the top weight from peg 3, his 46lb 8 oz narrowly beating the man of the moment, John Kiernan’s 41lb 1oz.

Wayne the frame Eden snook into third with 40lb 14oz, a very close match between the top three, given the stamp of fish in there there’s barely one fish between the frame.

Last Thursday’s swindle saw 8 swindlers dodging the showers, no fancy pairs just a straight up shoot out on the even pegs from 8 to 22.

Two sections of four, in the first section the in form Kiernan took the honours from peg 14 with a very nice 68lb 1oz ahead of the MO on peg 12 with a level 36lb.

In the top section it was the end peg 22 for Dave Tungate, the long walk paid off for him with a winning weight of 34lb 11oz. Manchester Mick second from peg 20 with 21lb 2oz.

The space definitely helps give the competitors a days fishing with a nice day for all. Well done all.

ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS, DAY TICKETS AND SEASON TICKET HOLDERS.

The long hot summer has dried some of the banks in A pit. Coupled with the low water levels, erosion of under cut banks has left no option but to close access to pegs over the footbridge.

Apologies for any inconvenience, and please do take care at the water’s edge, there’s a plan in development to undertake remedial work during the autumn.
