Lateral skipping⏩

The only way to get better laterally is to train laterally, but this skip usually catches a lot of athletes off guard because no one thinks to skip this way.

Moving laterally is something ALL athletes need to know how to do well.

We teach this skip in our team S&C programmes to help improve coordination, warm up the abductors and prep the knees and ankles to move laterally.

The youth athletes at Chigwell tigers have been practicing this for a few weeks and they are finally getting it down!!

🗣 Don’t let other peoples' opinion you overpower your view of yourself. Let me explain..

As athletes we are faced with a lot of comparison and judgments from parents, teammates and coaches. This is unavoidable.

We compare jump height, running time, game stats, attitude, stamina starters over non startes, etc. That is the nature of competition.

But you can't let those aspects of competition take over how you feel about yourself on a day to day basis.

Otherwise you don't give yourself any room to grow.

You will fall into the trap of caring more about what others are thinking and doing rather than just doing you and focusing on your unique gifts.

This happens a lot in sport and can often go unnoticed until your time in competitive sports is done.

We have to form some sort of mental protection by building confidence in who you are both in and out of sport.

Meditation and visualisation is a great way to get rooted in who you are as a player AND a person. Make sure your thoughts are yours and not someone else’sYou are what your believe your are.

As a coach, hearing things like this makes it all worth it 🙌🏽

Charlie has been CONSISTENT with his S&C sessions all through summer and continuing into his season. Charlie trained and played over summer and is now 8 weeks into his football and rugby practices and games. He says this has been the longest he hasn’t been injured.

Our number 1 job as an S&C coach is to keep athletes healthy and ready to play. Prevention is worth more than a cure!

Do you get caught up in comparing yourself to others?

Social media can make it really challenging. We see people with “more” than us or in a “better” position than us and that can lead us to end up feeling ungrateful, anxious, low on confidence or even jealous.

What good does that do?

Remember that everyone has their own unique situation. It does us no good getting distracted by what others are doing. True growth and progress happen when you can appreciate your own your own journey.
