What makes this one extra special is that the belt was awarded by Marcelo Briggs at Centro de Lutas Nova Geração, a gym that has played a significant part in my own journey in BJJ. Marcelo a phenomenal practitioner in his own right too🥋

To see one of our team travel across the world, immerse himself in the culture of jiu-jitsu and earn recognition from coaches at the source of the sport is something we’re incredibly proud of.

Really cool one today! Gave Sanchez (aka Daryl) his blue belt.

He must of trained for about a decade now but he’s been away overseas a lot serving in the military. He’s an old school blue belt in the sense he is as tough as nails. It’s long overdue as he kept on disappearing to somewhere or other before he was going to get his belt.

Been a pleasure to coach him, brilliant guy to have about and I’ve seen him grow over the years on and off the mat 🙌🌊❤️🫡

Many moons ago I had the pleasure of training in Rio .

It’s amazing now that one of our guys is out experiencing the place now too. Marcelo pictured with Jay is one of the best guys I’ve ever trained with. Used to go running with him round the lagao after training. (Follow behind him knackered)
We would go to another gym near by and train together too. The guys at Nova Geracao were incredibly welcoming.

They have made Jay feel at home already, hopefully Marcelo helps you with your closed guard. His is the most dangerous I’ve ever experienced 🙌🥋❤️🌊🇧🇷🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Another Purple belt awarded this week 🟣💟🙌

Big David has been a tremendous asset to the gym since his arrival, a massive credit to his previous coach Martin Donaldson and the team

He came in already really well schooled and you could tell his previous gym had a really high level of technical ability and coaching.

Really talented technically alongside being a really, tough physical Goliath. Training with these machines keeps me honest and on my toes! Amazing training partner and teammate, watching him train with his son Tyler is really cool too.

We also managed a reshoot with Gareth in a more respectable Gi as so alls well that ends well😂 Brilliant week at the gym! 👏 🙌 🌊

New purple belt 🟪🟣💟

Gareth has unbelievable potential, he may be one of the most physically imposing guys I’ve ever trained with. But I think the reason he is improving so frighteningly fast is due to how intelligent he is when training. He is nice/clever enough to completely drop a gear or 6 and not use that physicality when he’s training with different training partners.

He’s tremendous with new folk and genuinely very polite and nice guy. I wasn’t sure if I should dish out the belt last night due to that horrendous gi. But I think the whole squad breathed a sigh of relief when he got bumped up to purple last night😂

It’s been a pleasure to work with him as he’s maintained his humility as his technical level sky rockets! A great training partner for myself personally and the whole team 🌊❤️

(I may need to introduce a no horrendous gis policy, or just never bump anyone up when they’re choice of clobber, brings the gym into disrepute) 😂😂
