An unpredictable opponent this morning as we face a Laceby FC who had a bad start to the season but turned the corner last week by tonking No.1.
The Neonatal squad is looking strong this morning so let's see if we can add 3 points to our unbeaten start.
Huge thank you to our sponsors, without them this team wouldn't be possible.👌

A first win of the season for Grimsby Neonatal FC against a fancied Jolly Rogers FC.
The game started with Jolly Rogers looking after the ball well but Neonatal standing firm and not looking in any danger.
Some big early challenges from Boyington, Dixon & Pargeter set the tone as the Neonatal let the youthful Jolly lads know they was in a game. Both teams picked up cautions in the first half an hour.
A change in formation reverting to a traditional 4-4-2 helped the Neonatal gain more control of the ball and more use of the ball out wide. This should have seen the games first goal as Dias was sent through on goal after some great work from Pargeter and with all the time in world and the goal at his mercy the handsome midfield maestro spurned the opportunity nearly taking out his own windscreen in the car park.
Dias then picked up a yellow card with another big challenge with the referee calling for a free kick in a dangerous position. The free kick was struck well but Chapman in the Neonatal goal pulled off a brilliant save to tip onto the crossbar.
0-0 at HT. Neonatal having the better chances.
The second half started off well with some good chances for Neonatal being snuffed out by the decent Jolly Rogers GK.
A shuffle of the pack saw Charlesworth-Browne get the nod to play the last half an hour up top, after a great first 60 mins bossing the game.
The goal finally came when a quick throw in was flicked on by Maynard to Charlesworth-Browne who volleyed past the stretching GK and into the bottom corner to send the Neonatal into a deserved lead.
More changes & more yellow cards came as Jolly Rogers tried to find an equaliser but the Neonatal stood firm & the first 3 points in Division 2 were picked up.
Charlesworth-Browne ⚽
Maynard 🅰️
MOTM - Alex Boyd & Ben Charlesworth-Browne. ⭐
Difficult to pick a MOTM as everyone had really good games but these two lads edged it.
Browney dictated the play when pushed into midfield after 20 mins & played the last half hour up top & won us the 3 points.
Boydy absolutely worked his socks off all game & caused the Jolly Rogers defence no end of issues.
Huge thank you to our sponsors, without them this team wouldn't be possible.👌

Bit of a late post as I've been unwell.
First point on board for the Neonatal as we dominated a Healing side but couldn't get a winner.
The game started with the Neonatal lads on top without creating any clear cut chances.
The first big chance came when new signing Elford hit the inside of the post and somehow the ball stayed out with no one following up.
Neonatal found themselves 1-0 down after 15 minutes when Healing saw their first entrance into the Neonatal box end with a header being deflected into the net.
Wilson danced around 5 Healing players before being stopped by a blatant handball from a sliding in Healing player on the edge of the box stopping a one on one. The free kick was deflected over.
Elford struck the inside of the post again just before half time but again there was no follow up to tap home.
1-0 to Healing at half time...somehow.
The second half started in the same fashion as the first with Healing being penned into their own half.
An equaliser finally came just after the hour when a lovely ball in from Charlesworth-Browne was headed into his own net by a Healing defender.
Neonatal pressed for a winner but a combination of last ditch defending & solid goal keeping from Healing ensured the game frustratingly finished level.
On another day new signing Elford would have been taking the match ball home but it just would not go in for him on his debut.
MOTM - Jake Lewsam. ⭐
Class all game. Won all of his duels in the air & on the deck. Solid performance. 💪

Grimsby Neonatal FC 0–2 Broadley FC
Terry Hanley Memorial Cup – Group Stage
Grimsby Neonatal FC’s second group-stage fixture in the Terry Hanley Memorial Cup ended in a 2–0 defeat to Broadley FC, despite a committed and battling display from a stretched squad.
With only 12 players available and several carrying knocks, Neonatal made an encouraging start. Ollie Harvey tested the Broadley keeper early on, and Dixon headed narrowly over from close range as the away side pressed for an opener.
However, as energy levels began to fade and injuries started to tell, Broadley grew into the game and punished Neonatal with two quickfire goals late in the first half. Both came from sharp transitional play, with through balls splitting the defence and leaving Jack Chapman exposed.
A regroup and tactical reshuffle at the break steadied the ship. Neonatal looked much harder to break down in the second half and even carved out a promising counter-attack, but couldn’t find the finishing touch. At the other end, Chapman made several vital saves to keep his side in the contest, the pick of the bunch a superb reaction stop from a deflected cross which he somehow managed to tip around the post.
Despite their best efforts, Neonatal couldn’t find a way back into the game, but the grit and determination shown by the depleted squad earned the respect of the crowd.
⸻
Man of the Match: Jack Chapman
Special mention goes to 17-year-old Hardy for a tireless display at right-back, but the standout performer was goalkeeper Jack Chapman. Commanding in his area and making vital saves, he ensured the second half remained goalless and capped off an excellent pre-season so far for the Neonatal number one.
Huge thank you to our sponsors, without them this team wouldn't be possible.👌

Grimsby Neonatal FC 2–3 Old Vic
Sunday League – Match Report
The opening group-stage fixture of the Terry Hanley Memorial Cup saw Grimsby Neonatal FC narrowly beaten 3–2 by Old Vic in a thrilling pre-season contest full of drama and incident.
The visitors struck first after 15 minutes when an Old Vic forward was brought down by the Neonatal goalkeeper. The resulting penalty was calmly dispatched to make it 1–0.
Neonatal, however, found their response shortly after. On his debut, Alex Boyd finished smartly after excellent build-up play from Fin Laking, levelling the game and giving the home crowd hope.
But midway through the half, a defensive mix‑up at the back for Neonatal gifted Old Vic a second goal, their winger racing through unchallenged and beating the keeper at the near post.
There was still time for late drama in the half. Neonatal were handed a lifeline when they won a penalty of their own, but Jack Wilson’s spot-kick was brilliantly saved by the Old Vic goalkeeper. Wilson continued to threaten, rattling the crossbar with a powerful effort and seeing a well-struck volley denied by another outstanding stop before the break.
Early in the second half, Old Vic extended their lead to 3–1 with a well-taken finish, leaving Neonatal with a mountain to climb.
Despite the setback, Neonatal showed resilience and dominated much of the second period. Their pressure finally paid off in the 88th minute when Ollie Harvey’s corner was flicked in at the near post by Ash Sarbutt, setting up a tense finale.
In the end, Old Vic held on to claim all three points, while Grimsby Neonatal were left to rue missed chances and a costly first-half spell.
⸻
Goals & Assists (Grimsby Neonatal FC)
• Goals: Alex Boyd, Ash Sarbutt.
• Assists: Fin Laking, Ollie Harvey.
⸻
Man of the Match: Jack Wilson
Wilson’s energy, flair and determination drove Neonatal forward all match. A saved penalty, a shot against the bar and a brilliant volley capped an excellent but unlucky performance.
Huge thank you to our sponsors, without them this team wouldn't be possible.👌
