"Scaffa Baffs" - Scartho Road Swimming Pool, 1968.

The swimming pool, which opened in December 1962, had almost half a million users by the end of the decade and was the source of considerable civic pride. The Grimsby Official Guide of 1968 includes the following description of the pool: "The County Championship Swimming Pool measures 110 feet by 42 feet, with water depths ranging from 3 feet to 6 feet 6 inches; there is a centrally off-set diving bay 12 feet 6 inches deep, providing 1 and 3 metre spring boards and a 5 metre firm board. The whole water surface is therefore "T" shaped, having the unusual feature of two shallow ends, on which lines many new pools throughout the country have been designed."

What a great loss to Grimsby !

December 20th marked a year since the pool was closed . It will be interesting to hear how the new pool is doing , after all they do have a lot of former users of the Baths , perhaps the council will come up with figures for the rate payers !

Our council said there would be no houses , be ready to object to a KFC outlet . A few years ago KFC tied to locate an outlet next to the former Tates at Nun's Corner, which was fought off successfully !
