It's fantastic to see this well-deserved recognition for the team led by Lucy Leicester, Racheal Marshall and Monica Guzman, whose award-winning quality improvement project has enhanced emergency care for dogs with acute haemorrhagic diarrhoea syndrome (AHDS).

We're proud to have won the Quality Improvement to Lead Organisational Change Award at the RCVS Knowledge Awards 2026.

The RCVS Knowledge Awards celebrate outstanding achievements across the veterinary profession, recognising projects that demonstrate outstanding use of quality improvement (QI) methods to advance the quality of care through innovation, leadership and evidence-based practice.

Our award-winning project was recognised for improving emergency care for dogs with acute haemorrhagic diarrhoea syndrome (AHDS).

Using data from more than 1,100 emergency cases across over 60 Vets Now sites, the project introduced a structured care framework, an integrated fluid therapy calculator and enhanced monitoring tools to improve fluid therapy for dogs with AHDS.

The results included:

-An increase in documented fluid therapy calculations from 8.7% to 40%
-A 25.1% reduction in antimicrobial use
-Improved prescribing accuracy
-Better patient monitoring

Congratulations to the project team - Lucy Leicester, Racheal Marshall and Monica Guzman - alongside the Clinical Standards team and everyone across Vets Now who contributed to this fantastic achievement.

This award is a fantastic example of how quality improvement and collaboration can make a real difference to patient care.

This Pride Month, we're proud to share some reflections from Chris, Head of Operations and Chair of our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Committee here at Vets Now.
