Badshot Lea Youth FC U14 JPL are urgently looking to strengthen our defensive line.

At the end of last season, all of our defenders moved on, leaving a significant gap at the back. As a result, this season has been extremely challenging, with players having to perform in unfamiliar positions and, on occasion due to illness, even competing with just 10 players instead of 11.

We’re determined to turn things around and are actively recruiting strong defenders, specifically full-backs and centre-backs, to help rebuild the squad.

For those unfamiliar with the JPL, it is a high-level league featuring exceptional talent. We offer two training sessions per week (Tuesday and Thursday on 4G pitches), with matches played on Saturdays. The matches are 80 minutes long. This means players who currently play on Sundays can continue with their existing club and play both.

Coaching is delivered by a UEFA C qualified coach with over 10 years of experience, working across both beginner and advanced levels. During the summer, we also plan to enter a summer league rather than focusing solely on tournaments.

• Why this matters

Men account for 3 out of every 4 su***des in the UK—that’s around 75% of all cases .

In 2023, 6,069 su***des were registered in England & Wales, and 5,656 of them were men, with a rate of 17.1 per 100,000 males compared to 5.6 per 100,000 females .

Su***de is the leading cause of death for men under 50 in the UK .

• The challenges

Men are less likely to seek help, and only around 36% of referrals to NHS talking therapies are for men .

Societal pressures—like the idea that “men should be tough”—can make it hard to open up .
