Trot up ready!! 😍
Yesterday was EPIC!
Super fun day taking part in the cross country phase of Bicton 1003DE.
Instead of just the cross country phase, we went back to 'old school' with the old long format of two lots of roads and tracks (hacking) a steeplechase and the normal cross country phase.
Phase A was 17 mins of trotting and cantering as a positive warm up for the steeplechase. Phase B was the steeplechase, 6 brush fences to be jumped at 550m per minute (BE Intermediate speed). Followed straight on by 27 mins of Phase C to be done at a good walk, steady trot. You then arrive back to the D box (10 minute) where you meet your team (Thank you) here, you take that time to rest, get checked over by the vet and lower the horses heart rate before XC. Phase D is the normal XC phase, the optimum time was 5:25 and another 20 or so jumping efforts.
Bug was so good having only had one run since our parting of the ways at Badminton and soul searching about eventing in general. Two days hunting seems to have made some difference and with a bit of growling we smashed the steeplechase. XC was mega from him, only one 😈 moment and a poor decision on my part led to a 20 pens. I should have listened to my brain and gone safe and long route at a tricky combination but he was jumping so well I decided to have a go. Note to self.....you do know the horse well!! 🙈
Out of the placings this year but bearing in mind, all I wanted to do was wear my fancy hat for the trot up today.....job well done. Fingers crossed for SJ this morning!

Bicton '25
110 and 115 on the grass in the main ring!
Really good experience, Bug was so generous in the 115 as I was pretty out of practice at this height.
Will give it another go tomorrow!

Life after Badminton!
Back to the 'dark side' today with BS at Tedworth.
Double clear in the Discovery and a schooling round in the newcomers has given us lots of homework.
Next aim is Bicton 3 day show in June and our first Foxhunter....🙈
