Please could we ask if any dog walkers who cannot take their dog poo home with them, that they use the big bin and not the smaller one! One of our volunteers has had to empty this today and it was not pleasant!

We understand it maybe walkers from the canal.

Any help would be appreciated

WEEKEND ROUNDUP

The last weekend of Copley’s senior season saw 3 very strong performances resulting in wins for each team to end the club's playing year on a high.

At home, the 1sts won the toss and invited visitors Bradshaw to bat first. The wickets were shared with 3 each for Olly T & Olly B, 2 for Ian and 1 each for Inshal & Benj as Bradshaw were dismissed for 156 in 36.1 overs.

In reply, the 1sts got home eight down in the 36th over, with 57 from Olly B, 21 from Matt, a few other starts and a couple of late boundaries each from Benj and Woody.

The 2nds were away at Warley & Elland and on winning the toss chose to bat first and post a magnificent 324. Craig (27), Rupesh (28) Karl (86) Nat (24) Akain (66) Ajay (27) were the chief contributors, all keeping the pressure on the host's bowlers throughout the innings.

In reply, a spirited run chase from the home team saw them finally bowled out for 283 in the final over with 2 wickets for Raza, 1 for Karthik, 2 for Craig and 4 for Akain.

The Sunday Section hosted Blackley at home with another strong batting performance dominating the game. Batting first, a fine 83 from Joe in just 47 balls put the visitors on the back foot with 30 from Tanay, 33 from Karthik, 37 from Akain helping the team post a mighty 261 in their 40 overs ……. and not forgetting perhaps the biggest cheer of the day for a big six late on from James over mid wicket!

In reply Blackley were immediately put under pressure with very economical opening overs from Hammaad & James making runs for the visitors very hard to come by. Blackley were finally bowled out for 86 in the 30th over, with 3 wickets each for Hammaad & Joe, 2 for Akain and 1 each for Tanay & Saim.

……….. and in the blink of an eye, the club's senior playing season for 2026 has come to an end!

On Saturday, the 1st Xl won the toss away at Thornton and asked the home team to bat first. They posted 210/7, with 4 wickets for Ollie T, one each for Ollie B and Benj plus a run out.

In reply, Copley’s batters all made starts and found themselves at 96/4 when Will was out for 31 and then 160/6 in the 39th over when Matt fell for 58. A flurry of quick runs and late boundaries from Inshal, Benj and Woody gradually brought the target into range and a six from Ian off the penultimate ball brought the scores level!

Agonisingly, Ian was run out off the last ball whilst trying to scramble home for the win ….. and the game ended in a tie. A great effort and what a finish!

Congratulations to Thornton who will be the 1st XI Premier Division champions this year but the Copley team have a win and a tie against them in the League this year.

The 2nd Xl were at home to a strong Booth team, who won the toss and asked the Copley team to bat first. What looked to be an under par 134 all out (with 18 from Akain, 27 from Ajay and 39 from Hammaad) started to look somewhat different when the visitors were 35/4 and finding scoring very difficult.

At 84/8 things were looking really interesting which then became 104/9 but a fine undefeated innings of 62 from the Booth 2nd XI skipper saw the visitors home and yet another super exciting finish this weekend had seen the 2nd XI, for the umpteenth time this season, miss out and end up on the wrong side of a really close game.

Wickets were shared, with 3 for Raza, 2 each for James, Hammaad and Akain with the unusual site of a hit wicket accounting for one of James’.

The Sunday Section game away at Great Horton Park Chapel saw Copley awarded a full points win as the hosts were unable to have the required number of players at the ground when the toss was due to be carried out.

A friendly T20 was started, which saw Copley race to 203 in their innings, with Akain, Hammaad, Tanay and Ajay each retiring on 30 not out, with perhaps the biggest cheer going to James for a four smashed through mid-wicket late on in the Copley innings. After one over of the host’s innings, heavy rain saw the match abandoned.

Copley cricket club are hosting the below finals for the Halifax League on Monday, we have advised the teams playing there is ample parking at the club and to adhere to the speed limits and we also have overflow parking at Rishworthians.

All more than welcome for a good day of junior cricket.

On Saturday, the 1st Xl hosted Luddenden Foot at The Arches, who won the toss and elected to bat first. A couple of early breakthroughs saw the visitors at 22/2 but some middle order resilience saw the visitor’s post 210/9 with three wickets each for Inshal and Benj.
In reply, the home team also lost a couple of quick wickets before partnerships of 49 between Ollie T & Will and then 56 between Ollie T and Matt saw the score at 114/4 after 27 overs. At 155/7, with 7 overs remaining, Ollie T was then adjudged run out (for 53) and the team were sadly then all out for 158.

The 2nd Xl were away at SBCI, and chose to field first on winning the toss. The SBCI top order looked in good form with 155/2 on the board after 35 overs but a strong finish from Copley’s bowlers saw the home team at 205/8 at the break, with five wickets for Akain and two for Raza.

In reply, Copley lost a couple of early wickets and then found themselves at 45/3 with the loss of Ankit for 29. A further two wickets quickly followed but partnerships between Raza & Nat and then Raza & Rupesh saw the score at 137/7 but time was running out and the team finished with 153/7 after their 45 overs with an excellent maiden fifty not out from Raza.

The Sunday Section were at home to Birkby Rose Hill, who were invited to bat after Copley won the toss. The visitors lost two early wickets but this then saw a very strong middle order pile on the runs ending with 316/9 with four wickets for Akain, two for Saqib and the two early breakthroughs from the excellent Hammaad.

Facing a daunting total, the Copley team set about their reply, with a fine 70 from skipper Dave and contributions from the middle order but ultimately this came down to damage limitation and how to maximise the points haul in Sunday cricket. A very good knock from Martin, who finished 29 not out, carefully controlled the back end of the Copley innings, steering the team to 195/9 at the close, with 9 points safely gained and the visitors restricted to just 16 points despite their dominant first innings batting display.

Congratulations to Copley’s own Mithran Saravanan who represented the junior league at U10s representative level.

Mithran was the top scorer for u10's with the total of 175 runs including 2 50's in the tournament and vital 31 runs to make sure Halifax setup a competitive total in the final.

After making it through to the Final last month, our Halifax U10 Representative Team have won the Yorkshire Junior Cricket Festival with an impressive performance over Huddersfield’s Representative Team on Sunday (16 August).

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, opener Mithran got 31 from 39 while Jonty, in at three, thoroughly earned his Player of the Match award with an impressive unbeaten 61 from 67. He also won the batting prize for the entire competition with the best average for an under 10.

A 63-run partnership with Ollie (33 from 34) joining Jonty at the crease was crucial as the team reached 142/3 in the 25 overs.

In reply, Reuben (1-8 from 4) struck in the second ball of the game while Joey’s efforts in the seventh with two wickets – one bowled, one run out thanks to Mithran - in three balls stopping Huddersfield gaining any momentum. Joey also took the bowling prize for taking the most wickets in the competition.

Ollie took 3-24 from 4, Edmund got 2-13 from 3 and Arjun secured 1-5 from 2. Laurie, Dougie and Freddie bowled well while Matty was also miserly and performed brilliantly in the field taking two catches. Keeper Morgan also performed a crucial role.

Huddersfield were always behind the rate and ended their 25 overs on 108/9 – 34 runs short.
