Two exciting senior games on Saturday this weekend, sadly both the 1st XI and 2nd XI ended up on the wrong side of the results.
Away at SBCI, the 1sts batted first on what looked like a lively track, and lost early wickets until Ollie T stood firm to finish with a fine 110 not out, (his second hundred of the season) and a late quickfire 31 from Inshal saw the team post a target of 179/7. With SBCI at 76/4 in reply, it looked as if the game could go either way but the home team reached their target with 6 down in the 43rd over with two wickets apiece for Ollie T and Benj.
The 2nds also batted first at home to Upper Hopton, and found themselves at 47/4 before Ankit (44) and skipper Karl (51) steadied the ship. Zac batted well for his 25, but the team were dismissed for 173 in the 39th over. In reply the visitors lost two early wickets to Raza which saw the score at 30/2 but a 100 run partnership then took the visitors to 130/3 before further wickets saw the scoreboard at 153/7. Sadly the team couldn't prise out any further victims and Upper Hopton passed the target in the 39th over. In addition to Raza's two early wickets, there were two also for Hammaad and three for Akain.

Good luck to our senior teams this weekend. The 1sts are away at SBCI and the 2nds are home to Upper Hopton. There is no Sunday Section game this weekend.
Just to catch up on last weekend, our 1st XI lost a close game at home to Upper Hopton with the highlights being 6 for 43 for Benj and 62 with the bat for Sid.
The 2nds lost out away at Mount, with a superb knock of 85 not out from Akain.
The Sunday Team also lost, to table topping Lightcliffee.
A belated congratulations to each of these young Copley players for their respective performances last weekend.

Good results for both the Copley Saturday teams this weekend, the Sunday side enjoying a week off due to the Parish Cup Final.
The 1st XI, bowling first, restricted Sowerby St Peter's to 175/9, with Inshal 5/42 and Oliver T with 3/45. In reply, Sid with 53 and Will with 52 were the main contributors, with some late boundaries from Inshal (18*) and Alex (11*) seeing the team over the line at the start of the penultimate over.
The 2nd Xl, also bowling first, had to work hard against a stubborn Greetland top order, but finally took control from the 27th over which saw the visitors at 112/3 and then 147 all out in the 39th over, the slower bowlers doing the damage with Rupesh 2/35, Adil 4/14, Akain 3/21 plus a run out. In reply, 47 for Karthik, 26 for Karl with Benj taking the team over the line in the 38th over with an unbeaten 48.
Congratulations to both teams.

Congratulations to Copley CC's Under 18's and U13's who this week each made their way through to the Collinson Cup semi finals for their respective age groups.
On Monday, the U18's restricted home team Thornton to 117/6 in their 20 overs, with 2 wickets for Sid and one each for Siddh, Sulayman and Akain together with a run out. In replay, Sid (39), Zac (18) and Akain (36) were the main scorers helping Copley close in on the target with Sulayman hitting the winning run with just 4 balls to spare. The U18's now face Northowram Fields at home on Monday 3rd August.
On Thursday, the U13's saw Bradshaw bat first and post 87/8 following some great bowling and fielding right across the Copley team. Lewis took two wickets, with one apiece for Frederrick, Ibrahim and Mithran and three run outs all keeping the visitors in check. In reply, the U13's chased the total target down in 14 overs, with Thomas (12), Mithran (25*), Frederrick (20*) and Layton (17* including a 6 to take the team over the line) the main scorers. The U13's now face King Cross at home on Thursday 6th August.

Three really exiting senior games this weekend.
Starting with the 1st XI, who were at home and were set a challenging target of 273 by SNHT. A Copley chase down of this total looked unlikely when Olly T fell for 64 in the 27th over, with the score on 139/6.
Luke and Craig then added 30 together, before a partnership of 102 between Craig and 1st XI debutant Hammaad saw the score to 271/8 with 13 balls remaining.
Sadly, at this point Hammaad fell for a fine 52 from 30 balls including 7 fours and 3 sixes in his maiden senior fifty, followed by Craig the very next ball for 48 (from 47 with 6 fours and 2 sixes). Zach also fell with the score remaining on 271, leaving Copley an agonising 3 runs short of victory, but what a game!
In the reverse fixture away at SNHT, the 2nd XI produced a near perfect all round performance following a number of very recent close calls where the team had just failed to get over the line. Setting a target of 222/7 there were significant contributions throughout the order as the scoring rate was gradually increased during the 45 overs, with our younger players leading from the front including 33 from Karthik, 37 from Ankit and 44 from Akain.
In response SNHT 2nd XI lost early wickets to Raza and James which saw them at 35/5 early in the 9th over which included 3 catches behind the stumps for Zac and an early grab at gully from Karthik.
The fielding throughout the team was outstanding all afternoon, most notably a towering skyer grabbed by Akain on the bottom boundary which claimed the 8th wicket with the score at 78.
Some defiant hitting from the tail took the hosts’ score to 165 when Zac grabbed his 4th catch behind the stumps giving Adil his 2nd wicket and the game was won to the delight of players and Copley spectators alike. Along with Adil’s 2 late on in the innings, Raza (2), James (4), Rupesh (1) plus a run out accounted for the wickets but this really was a strong team effort from the whole 11.
The Sunday team faced 2nd in the table Sowerby Bridge at Copley, with the tea makers in the pavilion feeling the pressure when the Copley scoreboard showed 73 for 8 after 27 overs with 42 from Dave being the only significant contribution. A very valuable partnership from Martin (32) and Freddie(36) then took the team to a creditable 146/9 by the close, to give the team something to defend.
Freddie took a welcome early wicket with the score at 26/1 at the end of the 3rd over, but the visitors reached 66 before James added a second, Akain the third at the end of the 13th and start of the 14th respectively.
Two further wickets, for Saqib in the 19th and 21st overs saw the visitors at 92/5 at which point the game could easily have gone either way, but three wickets for Joe, run outs from Joe and Akain saw Sowerby Bridge bowled out for 124 and the team had achieved a fine win highlighting just how important that earlier 9th wicket partnership from Martin and Freddie had proved to be in the first innings.

Despite unfortunately losing to Blackley on Saturday, No.8 batter Rupesh Onteru scored his maiden fifty for the club off 76 balls. Congratulations and hopefully the first of many.
