Petition: Reinstate Martial Arts as one of the approved activities for GCSE PE Martial Arts is a popular sport for children. Yet dedicated, passionate, talented students can no longer use them for GCSE. I think Martial Arts are wholly inclusive, appeal to all genders, all ethnic backgrounds and children with SEN. They can help promote fitness, self-discipline and respect.

It looks like those with full-time venues may just about to be awarded a grant payment of up to £6k. We haven't seen the full details yet but leisure was listed.
If they are doing this through the business rates scheme they used before this maybe £6k for venues with a ratable venue over £15k and then a £4k payment for venues with a ratable value under £15k.

Chancellor unveils £1bn Covid bailout with one-off grants for hospitality firms The Chancellor has finally announced a package of support for firms as Omicron rages - but it does not include a furlough scheme
I started listening to the budget but switched it off when they were wittering on about non-relivent drivel.
When I eventually switched it back on I did catch that we will be getting 50% off our business rates (for 12 months I think).
While one of our venues does not pay business rates the other one does.
I will catch up with the budget reports later to see if there is anything else that will affect martial arts centre owners.
Feel free to post if you hear anything :)

The last 18 months have been turbulent to say the least.
I know many have struggled at various points financially and I thought this would be a good time to remind all martial arts coaches of the benefits of a little financial planning.
This is not a complicated process. At the very basic level you can just setup a stocks and shares ISA and a monthly DD that pays a small amount into a low cost world based index fund.
If you have a day job as well as your martial arts club, I would encourage you to look into paying in the minimum required to get the maximum contribution from your employer. I know you can't get this until you are 55 but THIS IS FREE MONEY.
For more information or a reminder of some options, take a look at the article i wrote a few years ago.

As many martial arts clubs increase their fees to reflect an increase in costs, there will be many families that struggle to pay for their children's sporting activities.
How can we make our service more accessible to these families without devaluing our service?
Or is it just a case of these people being priced out of this activity?
Could we run some kind of scholarship programme?
Maybe set up a separate not for profit club we can obtain funding to use for an outreach programme?
If we are too expensive for a potential customer, would you be willing to point them towards a local community-based club that you know is cheaper?
Or is it just a case of every man for himself?
