North Sails Cowes Week 2026 was quite the rollercoaster!

😃: Some great racing, champagne conditions, second place on Monday, big lead at the first mark thanks to a brilliant strategic call from Imogen Watkins to cross the channel early on Thursday and a gun from the squadron to cap it off on Friday.

☹️: Getting held up by container ships, falling into our own private wind hole of calshot and of course the infamous coming together with the gurnard cardinal buoy.

5th overall in the sportsboat class was a decent showing all things considered!

Massive thanks again to everyone who helped us get back on the water after Tuesday's incident, especially James Taylor who put in a huge shift to get a new pole sorted.

Sometimes the Solent can bite you, hard!

On Tuesday we hit the gurnard cardinal buoy. Heads were in the boat after the hoist, there was a lot of tide running and we got it very wrong. Broken spinnaker pole, A2 kite in pieces and big crack in the hull ☹️.

One of the great things about the sport of sailing is how the community all rallies round to help when you're in trouble. Gavin Tappenden was on the dockside in minutes to assess and patch up the hull damage, .hall.cowes sorted us out with some pole fittings, Seatek engineering modified them to fit a slightly different section, James Taylor, Tom Callan and got a new Seldén Mast pole together and huge thanks to for the loan of their rib to get the guys over to swanwick to build the new pole. An unbelievable team effort to get mako back in the game.

We were down, but it'll take more than a navigation mark to knock us out! Unfortunately we're without the A2 for the rest of the week as it needs more than a regatta repair, but we'll be back on the racecourse for Thursday and Friday's action with the yellow A4 proudly flying and seven pairs of eyes looking carefully for buoys!

Beautifully sunny weekend for the Royal Southern Yacht Club Key Yachting July regatta. The wind was variable to say the least but the race officer did a great job and got all 6 races in.

We managed to find a few ladders and avoid the worst of the snakes. In the end it came down to four seconds on corrected time in the final race to give us 🥇 in IRC1 ahead of Skirmisher and Squirrel Sail Racing.

Next up is Cowes Week, can't wait!

Round the Island Race 2026 was worth the early start. Glorious sunshine, decent breeze for most of the race and an easterly for a change to keep us thinking. Right in the hunt at the needles but a long fetch to st Catherine's didn't really suit the sportsboats. 43 tacks between st Catherine's and ventnor was hard work! Ended up 55th across the line, 181st overall on IRC and 2nd HP30.

Thank you for another thoroughly enjoyable lap of the island.
