5th position is a fundamental stance in ballet, and many movements start, finish or pass through this position.
In ballet, 5th position holds great significance for several reasons:

• Foundation of Technique

5th position is one of the five fundamental positions of the feet in ballet. It serves as a foundation for many movements and combinations, helping dancers develop proper alignment, balance, and coordination.

• Transition and Connection

5th position acts as a transitional point between movements. This seamless connection between steps creates fluidity and elegance in a dancer's performance.

• Discipline and Precision

Mastering 5th position requires discipline, practice, and attention to detail. It encourages dancers to focus on their technique and posture.

5th position embodies the discipline, strength, and grace that define the art of ballet. ✨

Teaching dance goes beyond just moving your body. It also involves understanding dance concepts and improving through feedback. Here's why these parts are important.

Dance Theory

• Foundational Knowledge: Learning about the history of dance and key terms helps you understand and appreciate the art form.

• Analytical Skills: Discussing and analyzing dance deepens your comprehension and enables you to think critically about choreography.

• Creative Development: Using dance theory allows you to create your own dances with meaning and depth.

Written Corrections

•Personalized Feedback: Written corrections provide specific tips to help you improve, which you can review outside of class.

•Self-Assessment: Writing your own corrections encourages you to reflect on your performance and identify areas for improvement.

•Goal Setting: Setting clear, achievable goals based on feedback helps you track your progress and stay motivated.

By integrating these elements with movement practice, you can enhance your dance education, fostering both technical skill and intellectual growth.

As 2024 comes to a close it's given me the opportunity to reflect as my role as a teacher.
Teaching truly is a profound profession. The opportunity to shape lives, inspire curiosity and witness growth is unmatched.

A profession I didn’t expect to fall into so early but it has been the most rewarding thing I’ve done. Seeing young students develop and grow into young adults, and being involved in only a small part of that journey is such a privilege.

To my lovely students past and present I wish you all a Happy New Year!

Last week during Mental Health Awareness Day our young people were given the task to thank someone within the school. Receiving these made my day and even as adults we are all still looking for validation that we're doing a good job and are appreciated!

It truly means a lot to know that my efforts have made a positive impact on their learning journey. Watching my students grow and succeed is the most rewarding part of teaching, and I feel fortunate to be part of their development. Their appreciation encourages me to continue doing my best, and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to work with each and every one of them, past or present
