It is both an honour and a pleasure to announce that David Cole (恆龍) has achieved the rank of Master in the Fatshan Puma system of Wing Chun.
David chose to perform the Bai-si ceremony to cement his place as a disciple immediately before his graduation at a private ceremony.
David was presented with his certificate and a custom forged pair of bart jam dao created by Twisted Horseshoe knives.
David started training Wing Chun in 2009 and over the intervening years has shown himself to be a man of rare integrity and greater compassion.
Despite having been lied to and about by some he should have been able to trust and depend upon, David never lost his absolute moral compass, being prepared to put his own mental and physical wellbeing aside in order to do what he felt to right.
In 2017 David joined me in setting up the Fatshan Puma school. A decision that ultimately resulted in both of us becoming effectively masterless, almost Youxia (遊俠 )
Even after the suspension of formal classes at the school due to personal circumstances and the COVID pandemic, David continues to train regularly with me and has gained an exceptional understanding of traditional Wing Chun, its principles, applications and training methods.
Ceremonies and rituals like this are important. They give us the opportunity to be informed by and learn from that which has gone before, while providing guidance for the future.
I look forward to continuing training for many more years.
