⭐️⭐️Weekend Round-Up: Townies close in on promotion⭐️⭐️

*Three sides, three top-two places and a promotion weekend in sight*

Harlow Town Cricket Club produced another strong Saturday across the Herts and Essex Border League, with the 1st XI maintaining their position at the top of Division 2, the 2nd XI strengthening second place in Division 3 and the 3rd XI remaining firmly in the promotion picture despite defeat against the leaders.

The 1st XI produced the performance of the day at Ash Tree Field, beating Bishop’s Stortford CC 4th XI by 75 runs. Tom Garner narrowly missed a century, smashing 93 from just 56 balls with 11 fours and five sixes, while Darryl Pettengell added an excellent 81 from 54 deliveries. Town posted 263-6 before their bowlers completed the job, dismissing Stortford for 188. Sam Wilson, Anil Clarke, Tom Wilcox and Taylor Wood each claimed two wickets.

The 2nd XI were equally emphatic, cruising to a ten-wicket victory at Hockerill after dismissing the hosts for 169. Luke Luckin led the attack with 4-19, supported by three wickets apiece for Aseem Mohammed and Callum Fitzpatrick. James Teale and James Shearman then made the chase look effortless, sharing an unbeaten 170-run partnership, scoring 71 and 77 respectively.

The 3rd XI had the toughest assignment, hosting Division 4 leaders Bishop’s Stortford CC 1825’s. Town were bowled out for 105, but responded impressively with the ball. Hansal Dave took 3-17 and Town reduced the visitors to 55-4 before Eddie Fallan and Arthur Howes guided Stortford home at 106-5.

*Promotion permutations:* The 1st XI can secure promotion this weekend with victory. They are 48 points ahead of third-placed Bishop’s Stortford 4th XI, and a Town win would leave only two matches remaining for Stortford to make up the deficit. The 3rd XI can also guarantee promotion with victory: they lead third-placed North Weald by 33 points, but North Weald have
Played 14 of their 16 fixtures. A Town win would therefore put them beyond North Weald’s reach. The 2nd XI face the closest race, sitting 28 points ahead of Hatfield Heath with both sides having three town sides in touching distance of securing top two finishes.
