So it's Wednesday, the final day of the 2023 trip, and discussions are already taking place to choose the venue for 2024.
In the meantime there's all to play for as we have moved on to Otley Golf Club, a superb golf course and well on the way home for most, but not all, of the 24.
Again the Society president/chairman/organiser, Mr Garry Thompson, has the honour on the first tee, and he rips his first shot over 250 yards straight down the middle of the fairway.
Now the final group of players have submitted their cards and the daily and overall results can be announced.
Today - Geoff Pickard and Robin Hanson won nearest the pins (Robin for 2 days running).
The 'stella' team of Dave Warrington, Geoff Greaves, Garry Thompson and Brian Greaves won the daily team completion with a remarkable score of 96.
The daily individual Stableford winners - 3rd place Elliot Pickard with 36 points, runner up Andy Groves with 38 and the winner with 40 points Geoff Greaves.
Finally, the overall scores for the 4-day event:
The 'yardage' competition- 3rd Billy Hall with 4039 yards, runner up John Allen with 4583 yards, and the winner Elliot Pickard with 4652.
Par 3 competition with 16 holes to play for - joint 3rd place with 8, Benjamin Greaves and Nicky Thompson. Joint winners with 10, Matthew Benson and Jack Mills.
The Elite Knockout was won by Stephen Thompson who beat Mark Atha in the final.
In then became the Elliot Pickard story as he picked up both the major trophies, winning the Bernard Armitage trophy with victories on the final day in both the semi-final and final, and then also winning the Barrie Powell Memorial trophy with a score of 141, just beating off John Allen who finished just one shot behind on 140.

So it's Tuesday, 23rd May, the sun is shining again, its MOVING DAY (day 3 of the 4 day tournament) and we're playing at Teeside Golf Club - always a friendly welcome at this place with a great view of the 18th green from the veranda - there should be a great atmosphere fuelled by the odd pint as the players walk down the 18th.

Nearest the pin on two holes, won by Ian Long and Robin Hanson.
Team game today, best 3 scores on all 18 holes - winners with 135 points - Nicky Thompson, Mark Atha, Benjamin Greaves and Paul Hanson.
Individual Stableford winners today - in 3rd place with 39 points Steve Thompson, runner up with 40 points Mark Atha, and the winner with 46 points (yes 46 points) Paul Hanson. It's thought this is a record on this event- the scores from the last 33 years are being checked as we speak!

It's now Monday 22nd May and we've moved on to Eaglescliffe where we have played the second round of our four day trip.
The results today are as follows:
Nearest the pins - hole 4 Richard Hedley, hole 17 'Rory Woods'
Team winners - (1:2:3) - after a count back, Richard Hedley's team with Mark Greaves, Robin Hanson and Geoff Greaves won with a score of 85
Individual Stableford competition today - 3rd place, Nicky Thompson with 35 points, Richard Hedley and Steve Thompson both 37 points with Steve winning on a countback.
Tomorrow, Tuesday we move on to day 3 at sunny Teeside Golf Club.

Calverley Gents Golf Society 2023 trip got off to a successful start in lovey sunshine at Rockliffe Hall, Darlington.
The results from day 1 are as follows:
Nearest the pin - hole 2 Eddie Hall, hole 12 Billy Hall.
Team winners (best 2 scores on each hole) with 95 points, captain Richard Hedley, Andy Groves, Eddie Hall and John Allen.
Daily Stableford competition- Ian Long, with 40 points, snatched 2nd place from Matthew Benson on a countback over the back 9 holes. Andy Groves came in as winner with 43 points.
Jack Mills is leading the 4-day par 3 competition with all 4 holes on the first day.
We've now moved on to the Parkmore Hotel in Yarm for the next three nights and are preparing for day-2 of the tournament to be played at Eaglescliffe Golf Club.
The weather forecast is excellent so keep your head down and enjoy the day!!!
The 33rd annual 4 day event will commence on Sunday 21st May starting at Rockliffe Hall Golf & Spa Resort followed by Eaglescliffe Golf Club on Monday, Teeside Golf Club on Tuesday and concluding at Otley Golf Club on Wednesday 24th May.

Last year’s winners will be returning to defend the titles, but there will be many previous winners eager to repeat previous triumphs.

The 2022 CGGS Annual Trip drew to a conclusion on Wednesday at Whitefield Golf Club - the final day was played in excellent conditions on an excellent course with some particularly difficult par-3s.
The results for day 4 are as follows:
Nearest the pin - hole 3, Jack Mills, hole 11 Benjamin Greaves
Team winners - Geoff Pickard, Eddie Hall, Mark Atha and Benjamin Greaves.
Mark Atha finished in 3rd place in the daily Stableford Competition with 36 points, and Benjamin Greaves pipped Mick McDonnell for first place in a countback with 39 points.
Moving on to the overall results for the 4-day event:
Yardage comp - 3rd place, Mark Atha with 4228 yards, 2nd place, Jack Mills with 4374 and winner Benjamin Greaves with 4379.
Par-3 comp - joint winners with 9 par-3s out of 16, Mark Atha and Jack Mills.
The Elite knockout competition - Ian Long with 34 points beat Geoff Greaves in the final.
The Bernard Armitage Knockout Competition - runner up Matthew Benson, winner Nicky Thompson.
And finally, the big one!!! For the Barrie Powell Trophy played over four days, Benjamin Greaves and Jack Mills scored 137 points, Matthew Benson the runner up with 138, but the winner with scores of 33, 37, 36 and 33 giving a total of 139 points and showing the value of consistency and early nights, BILLY HALL.
The evening concluded with the excellent hospitality of Whitefield Golf Club, followed by a few more beers at Calverley New Inn for those who had not had enough over the previous three days, along with the usual discussions over venues for 2023!!!
Back at Herons Reach on the 3rd day of the CGGS 4 day tour.
The weather remained fine with some excellent golf but also a few starting to feel the strain of golf at the top level.
The results on day three were as follows:
Nearest the pin - 8th hole Matthew Benson, 16th Chris McDermott.
Team comp winners - Elliot Pickard, Eddie Hall, Mick McDonnell and Steve Thompson
Stableford comp - 3rd Steve Thompson, 2nd Mick McDonnell, winner Geoff Greaves.
Benjamin Greaves is leading the yardage comp as we move into the last day.
Jack Mills leads the par 3 comp with 8 out of the 12 played, closely followed by Richard Hedley and Mark Atha on 7.
Today we move on to Whitefield Golf Club for the conclusion of the 2022 event. Jack Mills is leading on 108 points followed closely by John Allen and Matthew Benson 107, Billy Hall on 106 and Geoff Pickard on 103.

The second day of the four day tour produced some of the best golf in the history of the golf society, with standard scratch (average of the top 16 scores) recorded at 37.
This was crowned by Jack Mills scoring 43 points off a playing handicap of 5.
To top it all after the torrential downpour until the first players teed-off at 11am, despite the gloomy forecast, the sun came out and lit up the wonderful Blackpool North Shore golf course.
The results for day 2 are as follows:
Nearest the pin - hole 7 Geoff Greaves, hole 17 Nicky Thompson.
Winning team with 92 points- Richard Hedley, Ian Long, Brian Lamb and Geoff Greaves.
Stableford scores for day 2 - in third place, John Allen with 40 points, runner-up, Geoff Greaves with 41 points, and the winner, Jack Mills with 43.
The leaders after two days are Geoff Pickard with 74, John Allen with 75 and Jack Mills leading with 77.
Mark Atha is leading the 'yardage' competition with all 8 holes after 2 days, but closely followed by 5 players with 7 holes.
Mark Atha, Richard Hedley and Jack Mills share the lead of the par 3 competition with 6 pars out of the 8 played to-date.
So on Tuesday we move back to Herons Reach. Although we are only at the half-way stage, things are now hotting up and the alcohol and fatigue will start to kick in. Matthew Benson is looking ready to pounce in fourth place and interestingly the Hall brothers are looking good in joint fifth place.
