A strong team performance with everyone playing their part, while goals from Dan Wilson and Lee Roberts secured the victory. ⚽⚽

A MARK OF RESPECT

Today, everyone at FC Hartlepool will be observing a social media blackout as we pay our respects to PC Matt Blades on the day of his funeral.

Matt, a much-loved and highly respected coach at FC Hartlepool, gave so much of his time to the club and made a lasting impression on so many people within FC and across the wider Hartlepool community.

Our thoughts are with Matt’s family, friends, colleagues and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Our thoughts are also with the family and friends of PC Tom Clough, Matt’s colleague and partner, at this incredibly difficult time.

FC Hartlepool will remain silent across our social media channels today as a small mark of our respect.

🏆 DURHAM MINOR CUP | PRELIMINARY ROUND

Cup action comes to Grayfields this Saturday as FC Hartlepool Reserves welcome Heighington FC, who currently compete in Division Three.

FC last lifted the Durham Minor Cup in May 2016, defeating Wear Valley 1-0 at Norton thanks to a Tom Hickey goal and an excellent defensive performance.

The final was a replay after the original fixture was abandoned at 0-0 following a serious leg injury to a Wear Valley player.

Today marks the first-ever Hartlepool derby in the Northern League as FC make the short trip to Seaton Carew.

Before kick-off, both clubs will come together to pay their respects to PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough.

Two clubs. One community. United in respect. ❤️

A historic afternoon for local football as FC Hartlepool and Seaton Carew meet for the first time in the Northern League.

Following the tragic events of the past week, today is about far more than football. Ahead of kick-off, both clubs will come together to remember PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough.

💬FC Manager Terry Hill summed up the feeling around the club:

“This week’s events have put football into perspective. It has affected people within our club in very different ways and, as a collective, it has been a tough week.

“Football takes second stage at times like this, but it can also bring people together. Today gives us an opportunity to remember, reflect and stand alongside like-minded people as one football community.”

💙❤️ MATTY BLADES

The FC Hartlepool family has lost a truly special person and a much-loved member of our club.

Our deepest thoughts and condolences are with Matty’s wife, his two boys, family, friends and everyone who knew and loved him.

Rest peacefully, Matty. 💙❤️

💙 Matty Blades ❤️

It is with the heaviest of hearts that FC Hartlepool share the devastating news of the passing of Matty Blades, a much-loved member of our football family, who tragically lost his life while on duty as a police officer.

As coach of our U10 Reds, a team that was made even more special by having his eldest son playing alongside the boys, Matty was so much more than a coach. He was a role model, a mentor, a friend, and someone the children looked up to and admired. He was able to share his love of football with his son while inspiring and supporting every child on the team.

Matty gave his time, energy, and heart to the team. He encouraged the boys, believed in them, supported them, and helped them grow—not only as footballers but as young people. His kindness, patience, and infectious personality made him loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The U10 Reds have lost a coach, but our club has lost a truly special person and a valued member of the FC Hartlepool family.

Our deepest thoughts and condolences are with Matty’s family, friends, and everyone who knew and loved him - especially his wife and two boys whom he adored. We stand beside them during this incredibly difficult time.

Matty, thank you for everything you gave to our club and to our boys. Your place within the FC Hartlepool family will always remain, and your memory will live on in the team, in the children you inspired and in everyone whose life you touched.
