Today's photodump from HYR U16s 53-14 resounding victory over Currie in a pre-seaaon friendly in front of a large crowd at the Volunteer Park.

All and all it's been a busy weekend for Hawick Youth Rugby's committee, coaches, parents and carers and thanks to everyone who helped make it such a success and let's do it all again next week !!!

It’s a family day out as Jodie and her sister walk 21 miles, her other sister and auntie walking 14 miles and Arlo, P5 Mini, is walking 5 miles with his granny and papa - a total of 85 miles between them.

The Hawick Youth monthly lottery for last season came to a climax today with the bumper annual draw which saw us hand over cheques to our 3 very lucky winners by our club President, Stuart Cannon.

1st prize of £1500 worth of holiday vouchers was won by Martin Goldie and his dad Rob was already there on duty in the kitchen and so picked up and hopefully passed on the cheque to Martin 🙂

2nd prize of a £500 in holiday vouchers was won by Mary Glendinning, a truly worthy winner who has helped us raise hundreds of pounds worth of delicious tablet she made for our club to sell at games over ther last few years.

And the 3rd prize of £100 of vouchers went to Murray "Masher" Forbes, another worthy winner who driven the Ecclefechen-Hawick road countless times both as a HYR committee man and a father to 2 ex-HYR players for many years.

Our new season lottery starts in September and we're always looking for new members and it's only £60 upfront for the year or £6 per month and as well as the bumper annual draw there's a monthly £100 prize draw too. This support is an essential part of our fundraising effort as we aim to provide all boys with free playing kit, travel and other benefits to help them access rugby which overall costs our club thousands of pounds each year, e.g. buses alone last year cost us almost £20k to cover the 3 age groups.

Photodump from this afternoon's HYR U18s 31-12 vistory over Melrose Wasps at the Volunteer Park.

In a close and physical first half Hawick went 7-0 down in the first 3 minutes and only just kept our noses in front 14-12 by half time thanks to 3 penalties from the boot of Lewis Cook and a try from Kuba Wydro.

The second half saw HYR stretch the lead within 5 minutes with a try from right winger Leo Lawrie who dived in at the corner and although HYR went down to14 men with a yellow card for Ben Shiel the young Hawick lads held out and stretched the lead as the other winger, Rory Douglas went flying over the try line in the left hand corner and with only 5 minutes to go Hawick struck again with Rory Douglas going over the in the corner again for his second try to close out the game at 31-12.
