The lady I'm training online mentioned this test, from the "Unbreakable" book by
I laughed and said "good luck with that!". Then, because that's often how my crazy brain works, I had to actually try it.
I definitely needed that mat, as it was just too slippy underfoot, otherwise. And I had to really lean into it. Focus on getting my weight onto the outside of the front of my feet. Mostly with my little toes. I was actually really surprised I managed it!
Gotta do hard things sometimes. I won't always manage them, but I'll occasionally surprise myself!

More of that "N.E.A.T." (None Exercise Activity Thermogenisis) today, in the form of climbing onto the motorhome roof, then scrubbing, rinsing and drying it off.
Could I have done this if I didn't do my regular fitness training? Yeah, maybe. But knowing my body is strong, fit and relatively coordinated because of my training, it wasn't quite as risky, daunting and difficult as it could have been.
But no, it doesn't make me any less terrified of heights, lol. Hey, as I said to this morning's online training client, strength training is excellent, but it can't fix everything!

Because I focus on health, fitness and nutrition, I obviously only eat salads, right? Hmm, maybe not..
I definitely need more than salad. But yes, I DO eat a big salad literally every day.
This isn't a scratty bit of wafer thin ham with a handful of lettuce, cucumber and tomato.
It's one of MY salads. And it's epic.
And now, after ploughing through all of that, I'm pretty much stuffed!

I try to think of things I'm grateful for each day. Sometimes it might be something really significant, like travelling back over to Yorkshire to see at least one of my three beloved sons, or something seemingly ordinary like this -
A cup of fresh, strong coffee with breakfast.
That's usually after my early walk and my home workout. I have a protein, fruit and veggie smoothie during the workout, btw.
Fasted training is ok for certain types of people, but it isn't right for me for different reasons.
But today was my "day off", so I just had a ten minute walk before breakfast.
So I was also grateful for a rest day. If you train regularly, especially if you strength train, it's pretty important to throw one in, at least once a week.
You don't gain strength or muscle during the workout, you gain them afterwards, when your body has time and space to adapt, grow and get stronger.

This is how I start every day. I get up, I get washed and dressed and I get straight outside for a short walk. I do it all year round, in every weather condition, and no mater what mood I wake up in, lol.
Most days, it's half an hour. Very occasionally, it's maybe only ten or fifteen minutes. And usually, once a week, it's a "proper" walk of several miles, going to Costa for a cappuccino and my own breakfast that I take from home. I'm not doing that at the moment, as I'm being referred to the gastroenterology clinic, and I'm following the FODMAP dietary protocol. That's a whole other subject, but it means I can't have my costa for a few weeks.
After my walk, I do my home workout. For me, that's the perfect way to start any day.
Great for every aspect of my health. Physical, mental and emotional all in one go.
I'm not telling you that you have to do a workout every morning, that's not what this post is about. I am telling you that you will notice a positive difference if you go straight out every morning. Even if you just wander around your neighborhood for ten minutes. Trust me. Try it for one week.
Get up, get dressed, get outside. Just one week.
And then tell me how you feel!

Yes, I'm in pretty good shape. Yes, I'm relatively fit and strong. And also yes......I'm definitely not great at everything!
I walk through the kid's park quite often, and keep looking at the rope climbing thing. I've actually got as far as climbing up and just about swinging one leg over. Only to totally chicken out, swing it back, climb back down and keep walking.
It's one thing being physically capable of something. It's a whole other thing being mentally capable, or having enough confidence to get out of that comfort zone and push through those mental barriers. I'm actually terrified of heights. And those ropes are very wobbly! But this day, I just got on with it. Shut up, brain, I'm doing this!
And yes, I was completely terrified. But yes, I did it anyway!
You don't have to be the best at everything. You don't actually have to be the best at anything. You just have to do YOUR best. This was my best, and I was happy with that.

Fitness isn't always just about signing up for gym classes and then skulking to the back of the room, so nobody can see you, or shaming yourself into downloading a Couch to 5k app.
Actually, please never tell yourself you have to do either of those things!
Fitness in it's true sense, in my opinion, is being able to live a functionally active life.
Yes, I do actual workouts (at home, not at the gym), and I walk and cycle. But I move. I do real life workouts!
And because I also do that other "organised" fitness work, I now try to deadlift or squat those leaves off the ground with correct(ish) technique....đŸ˜‚
