A brilliant day today as our members enjoyed the chance to spend time with our Attached Touring Professional, Lee Westwood. 🏌️

Lee kicked things off with a Beat the Pro challenge on the 17th before heading out onto the course to join different groups. He played a few holes with members, hit some shots, and shared plenty of tips and advice along the way. ⛳

The day finished with a Q&A during the presentation dinner, giving members the chance to hear from Lee and ask their own questions.

A massive thank you to Lee for being a great host as always! 🙌

If you have ever misplaced your tee shot left of the fairway on the 11th hole on the Lee Westwood C**t course, your ball could be landing on another piece of our local history and something to look out for during your next round.

The markings shown in the ground on the images are those of an Iron Age defended settlement that would have been inhabited at some point between 750BC & AD43. Unfortunately, there are only a few signs of the settlement that can be seen from the ground, but the surrounding silted-up defensive ditch and entrance way of this large oval enclosure are clearly visible from the air.

The site would have provided commanding views across the Tyne Valley long before the woodland growth that can now be seen. The enclosure is oval in shape and measures 104m in length by 74m in width. The now silted-up defensive ditch would have been in the region of 7m-8m wide and up to 1.3m in depth. The settlement lies within the Buffer Zone of the “Frontiers of the Roman Empire” UNESCO World Heritage site Hadrian’s Wall, which ran just 500m to the North.
