Very Village, very hot, painfully Porthleven describes Saturday’s match agains Hayle 3rds at Leedstown.
We fielded first holding Hayle to 122 runs, all out in 27.5 overs. Despite a hilarious 3 juggle drop in the outfield and maybe partly because of a run out that involved the ball having to be thrown to both wickets before success.
Over tea we were thinking, yes we have a chance here if we keep our heads. 🤔
Partly due to the conditions and partly due to great field setting by Hayle; batters who would normally have expected to be putting a few runs on were struggling to get the ball out of the crease and when they did mostly there was a Hayle fielder in the way 😞. We were all out for 48 runs in 31.4 overs.
Sometimes that’s just the way it goes 🤷♂️
Batting training this Wednesday at the Cricket Club starts 6.30pm. New players positively encouraged 😃.

We’re looking forwards to the second round of the Women’s Softball 2026 Cup on Monday 15th June at 6.30pm down at Methleigh Bottoms.
It’s against Paul who are both a lovely and really good team. We lost to them by 2 runs in our league match a few weeks ago at their home ground.
It’s set to be a tight match that anyone can win 🏆. It would be amazing to have some of you come down for support and meet your local softball team.
On Thursday there will also be Softball training from 6.30pm. New players welcome n fact positively encouraged 😃.

2 mid-week games at Methleigh Bottoms:
Wednesday 10th June the Mid-week Heroes face Falmouth Futures, game starts 6.15pm
Thursday 11th June the Women’s Softball Team face Penzance. With a good performance so far this season it’s all to play for. Game starts 6.30pm
Saturday’s game (13th June) is away to Hayle 3rds. We often have a close game with Hayle so should be fun.

Well what a week of weather, even the swan has had enough! All Porthleven cricket games and practice were sadly rained off, we’re all cooped up and fidgety now.
A bit of good news is we get to welcome a new sponsor Allen’s Motor Repairs across the road from the club. Sponsoring us will really help out with the club improvements we’re pushing forward with this year so thank you very much Allen’s Motor Repairs.
Look out for our next post with next week’s games and remember to keep the 19th July free for our Cricket Club Fete.

We’re off the mark! 😃
Yesterday’s win over local rivals Helston was a match of firsts: our first win of the season, a fantastic first appearance for all-rounder Izzy and, for many of us, the first time we’ve been “away at home”. (Helston are sharing our ground this season, so we found ourselves in the away changing room.)
Helston’s young team fought hard and set us a challenging target of 145, thanks partly to an impressive last-wicket stand. But ultimately it was Porthleven’s day, as we made the runs for the loss of just one wicket (a fantastic, towering catch). Well played, Helston, and we’ll look forward to seeing you again later in the season.
Now we’ll try to carry that momentum into next week’s match, at home to league leaders Crofty/Holman. If you’d like to come and watch, we’ll need all the support we can get…
