Current project underway in Hemel Hempstead we moved onto some of the finer carpentry details to help bring the whole project together ahead of decorating.
Work completed so far includes:
Part installation of dado rail and picture rail to the ground floor entrance hall — this will all tie in once the decorating stage is completed
Wooden trims fitted around the ground floor doorway and window for a clean, finished appearance
A new access panel fitted to the top floor
A discreet access door fitted for the ground floor stopcock
We also transformed the existing understairs cupboard doors into shaker-style doors by using the original doors and adding bespoke panelling around them. A great way to give the cupboards a completely updated look without replacing the doors themselves, creating a much more modern feel

🚧 Exciting Progress at LJS Improvements! 🚧

We’ve been busy transforming a large 3-storey hall, stairs & landing—and the prep stage is now complete! 🏠✨

Here’s what’s been done so far:

🔨 Prep work complete
• One ceiling removed & reboarded
• Two ceilings overboarded due the artex was not stable enough to plaster over
• All paint on the walls stripped due to lime wash paint / distemper (1960s house) paint was not suitable to skim over
• Walls treated with Santex stabilising solution
•All corners and movment cracks reinforced with scrim tape
Blown plaster removed and repaired with bonding
•Due to areas of the ceiling not straight we applied bonding to even out the area this is due to joist movement over the years
•cables chased into the walls

Next up… full plastering starts next week 👀

Walls treated with damp seal due to penetrating damp, with the root cause resolved externally by a specialist. All cracks repaired, plus remedial work carried out to the new plaster which was from a third party the customer provide
Minimal prep to woodwork — just a light key and undercoat for perfect adhesion 👌
Customer is over the moon and we’re already lining up the next room 🙌

Another great project completed in Berkhamsted by LJS Improvements 👷‍♂️

We recently carried out a hall, stairs and landing plastering project for a returning customer.
The Artex ceilings were failing due to limewash paint underneath, so the Artex had to be carefully removed. Due to the age of the ceilings, the material was checked for asbestos before starting, ensuring everything was safe before continuing.
Preparation work included: • Removing the coving
• Stripping wallpaper from the walls, where we again discovered limewash paint underneath
• Stabilising and sealing the surfaces to create a solid base for plaster
• Reinforcing all cracks with scrim tape
• Blocking off a doorway as part of the work
Once all preparation was complete, the walls and ceilings were fully skimmed, leaving a smooth, fresh finish throughout the hall, stairs and landing.
This was a returning customer, and they’re extremely happy with the result once again 👍
We’re hoping to be back in June to complete another room.

Walls prepped by removing flaking paint before sealing the background and plastering the wardrobe area I will back on monday to mist coat and fit the coving to the room all ready for the customer to just paint
