🥋 "Growth comes from facing your fears. Only you can conquer them."
In Taekwon-Do, fear shows up in many forms: the hesitation before your first high kick, the knot in your stomach before sparring, or the doubt when you’re staring at a stack of boards you need to break.
But every time you breathe, focus, and strike anyway — you don’t just break the board.
You break the limit you placed on yourself.
That’s the real power of Taekwon-Do. It’s not just about becoming stronger physically. It’s about becoming unstoppable mentally.
The mat is waiting.
Your fears are waiting.
Only you can conquer them.

6th place overall for Team Powell at the LTSI South East Championships! An amazing result for our first outing this year - and how good it is to finally be back on the mats!
The next edition is already on our calendar for next year on the 19th March 🗓️
Now we are looking forward to hopefully carrying on the momentum at the ITFU England Midlands Championships this weekend! 💪

The ITFU Women's Committee in England has identified a need for support around eating disorders, overtraining and body image in the dojang. As the Designated Safeguarding Lead for England, Ma'am Jenny Lewis has created an informative poster to be used and shared by ITFU instructors and students.
Please note that the support information is for the UK - if you would like this changing for your specific country, please get in touch.

🥋 The Power of the First Move
"Every shot you don't take is a shot you miss."
In Taekwon-Do, we learn that the most difficult technique isn't a spinning kick or a complex pattern—it’s the decision to show up and try. Whether you're stepping into your first class or testing for a new belt, the greatest risk is staying exactly where you are.
🧠 Why Taking the "Shot" Matters for Your Mind
Breaking the Cycle of Hesitation: Anxiety often grows in the space where we hesitate. By physically practicing "taking the shot"—whether that's a sparring match or a new pattern—you train your brain to move past overthinking and into decisive action.
Redefining Failure: In the Dojang, a "missed shot" isn't a defeat; it’s data. Taekwon-Do teaches us that missing is just part of the recalibration process. This shift in perspective is a massive boost for mental health, reducing the fear of making mistakes in everyday life.
Building Evidence-Based Confidence: You can’t think your way into self-esteem; you have to earn it through action. Every time you attempt a difficult move, you are proving to yourself that you are capable of effort, regardless of the immediate result.
Overcoming the "What Ifs": We often carry mental weight from the things we didn't do. Taekwon-Do provides a structured environment to take risks, helping you replace "I can't" with "I'll try," which lightens the mental load and builds lasting resilience.
The only way to guarantee you won't succeed is to never try at all. Stop wondering "what if" and start finding out what you're truly capable of.
Are you ready to take your shot? 🥋✨

We often think of Taekwon-Do as just self-defence or fitness, but its deepest benefits are found right where the physical and the mental meet. It's a structured practice that genuinely supports your daily well-being and mental health.
Training Your Focus (The Real Workout) - Every stance, every Tul, requires total concentration. This isn't passive exercise; it’s an active mental discipline. By learning to focus intensely on the technique, you gain the ability to steer your thoughts away from anxiety and towards the present task.
The Confidence Cycle - You set a goal (like earning a new belt or mastering a difficult kick), you put in the work, and you achieve it. This cycle is a powerful antidote to self-doubt, building a foundational, quiet confidence that anchors you in other areas of life.
Stress Release, Not Just Sweat - There’s something profoundly therapeutic about moving your body powerfully and precisely. Taekwon-Do provides a high-intensity, controlled outlet, helping to process stress and tension physically so your mind doesn't have to carry the entire load.
Building Inner Discipline - The commitment and respect inherent in martial arts training spill over. This sense of order and structure contributes to a more balanced and less chaotic inner life, promoting better overall mental health and resilience.
It’s about striking a balance: the physical strength to act, and the mental focus to stay calm.
Ready to find your power and your peace?

I'd like to formally announce that Mr Dean Casey will be joining the Team Powell family, and will be setting up a brand new ITF school under Powell Taekwon-Do Academies!
This brand new club will be launching in the new year in Dorney, with the first lesson booked for the 5th January!
Dean is joining us as an already accomplished martial artist and instructor in his own right - having secured 2 golds and a silver medal at the previous ITFU European Championships in 2024, and leading martial arts classes in another style. We look forward to working with him and his future students!

I'd like to formally announce that Miss Rowena Pye will be joining the ITFU England Women's Committee as our club representative. She has in effect always held this role within our clubs, keeping an eye out for all of our female students - now it is just official!
By being a member of the ITFUe Women's Committee, she will be in talks with the other club representatives across the country so as to represent our females, and to continue working with them in the Dojang as part of a safe, comfortable environment.
