October 2014. Winter was on its way, we had finished the Pamir Highway, rested our legs in Osh, Kyrgyzstan for a few days, and were ready to tackle the final few days of cycling in Central Asia. We started at an altitude of 1000m, and retraced our long descent from the Pamir mountains, climbing a series of challenging mountain passes, reaching Sary Tash in the dark on icy roads, cycling over a snowy plateau up to 3,800m before reaching the Chinese border (which turned out to be closed for the weekend).

Welcome to fancy-free adventures, run by experienced cycle tourers and adventurers, Jules and Mark. We have cycled around the world, from the UK across Europe, to the high mountains of Central Asia, through China and South East Asia, on to Australia, New Zealand and North America, experiencing many different cultures and ways of life.

Throughout our travels we dreamed of being able to bring our friends and family with us, and the idea of creating our own cycle touring business, fancy-free began to take shape. We wanted to be able to share our experiences, and to introduce as many people as possible to cycle touring, in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Cycle touring is growing as an alternative, meaningful choice of travel; as a way to connect with people and the natural environment. At fancy-free we offer two day taster tours to give you the best introduction to cycle touring, longer cycle tours to explore our own beautiful country on two wheels and to our favourite European destinations, as well as mountain biking adventures on some great local trails.

We would love to share our knowledge and passion for cycle touring with you. We can also organise bespoke tours for groups of 4-8 people, so if you have an idea of a tour or would like to arrange one of our tours for a different date, please contact us.

After cycling for 5 months from the UK across Europe, Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan, crossing Kazakhstan by train and cycling back through Kyrgyzstan we reached the Pamir Highway in Tajikistan in September 2014. As the second highest international paved road in the world it is a popular cycle touring destination, with challenging terrain and extreme climate, beautiful mountain scenery and the friendliest people in the world.
