Following yesterdayβs win, we caught up with βDJβ to get his thoughts on the performance, the response from the group and what he wants to see carried into the next game. ππ»
ποΈ π€: After the recent run of form, how important was it for the group to show the character to respond and get the result?
π£οΈ π: The players had to show they could respond to criticism and fight after a poor run of results. The result was important, but the manner of the performance was what I was really looking for.
ποΈ π€: What was the biggest difference in the teamβs performance compared to the previous few games?
π£οΈ π: We had players who showed a winning mentality and a desire to do what is needed. Iβve never questioned the work rate and how much the players care, but you have to transcend that desire into a performance.
Every player showed that yesterday. They pushed each other, held each other to account and gave praise at the right times.
The pitch was always going to make the game difficult, but the players did what they needed to do to win the game. That is the mindset we have lacked.
You could see from the desire of the substitutes that there was a shift in mentality. Tyrese looked a man possessed when he came on. He came on with the desire to impact the game and see the team over the line.
ποΈ π€: Youβve now got that win under your belt. What do you want the players to take from todayβs performance and carry into the next game?
π£οΈ π: It is a win, but itβs still one win in five, which isnβt good enough for our standards.
They have to show that mindset again because football is never straightforward. There will be surprises in games and setbacks.
They now have to maintain those levels, as they have been too inconsistent recently with their individual levels.
