🌳Couriers Open Cross-Country Season at Abbey Dore
The Hereford Couriers got their new cross-country season off to a flying start with a strong turnout at Gwatkins C***r Farm in Abbey Dore.
Hosted by our friends from Hay Hotfooters and Builth Wells Running Club, the opening race provided a challenging and scenic course for runners, with the Couriers arriving in good time to collect their race numbers and prepare for the start.
With nerves beginning to build, runners took advantage of the surrounding fields for a final warm-up before returning for the team photograph.
Following the race briefing and a few words of thanks to the organisers, the runners were soon lined up at the start and, with the call of “Ready, Set, Go!”, the new cross-country season was underway.
The race featured a brand-new course, meaning competitors had no idea quite what to expect. The opening section took runners across a rutted field before leading into a gently undulating stretch and then through woodland.
Emerging from the trees provided a welcome opportunity to take in the spectacular scenery, with the distinctive jagged outline of the Skirrid visible on the horizon. The route then headed back towards the start area before runners tackled a second lap.
The Hereford Couriers produced an excellent team performance, with strong runs throughout the field and some impressive times recorded across the club.
There was plenty of determination on display, along with the usual camaraderie that makes cross-country racing such an enjoyable part of the running calendar.
With the first race of the season safely under their belts, the Couriers were unanimous in their verdict — there are few better ways to spend a Sunday morning.
🏆Female Team are second place just behind Croft
🏆Male Team are third behind Croft and Western Tempo
