Wednesday evening blast at

24/06/2025

Club racing on Sunday 22nd June was a blast. With a brisk F5 ESE the in shore waters were gusty with enormous wind shifts. The 90 minute persuit race had Laser Full, Laser Radials, Aero's, Laser 2000 and an RS800 competing for the cup. The Laser radials first to leave soon discovered enormously gusty conditions. Once more boats entered the race capsizes were frequent. Graham in his magnificent flying machine (Aero) managed to invert on the Jibe mark, and the RS800 had to drop the kite early to reach the mark. Soon Laurie Dengate sailed into the lead in the 2000 to steal the race.
Next was a normal handicap race, with a gusty start causing the RS800 to capsise 30 seconds before the start. Once underway it was soon apparent the skill was steering your way through gusts and lulls to your advantage. Olaf looked like the winner in the Laser full until he sailed into a hole before the finish to be defeated by Russel in a Laser Radial.
The RS800 sailors demonstrated how to fly, the helm departing from the rear and crew flying on trapeze with arm outstretched in superman pose to narrowly miss flying through jib. Sadly missed on camera.

Richards Sunday Race Report
Thanks to Gary in the race box today for keeping me alert and to Linda and Alex in the SB for immaculate course laying. We were delighted to have the junior sailors participating with Laurie and Jo coaching them around the course. The wind was a good 10-12 mph to start with but it tailed off as the day wore on. A couple of boats misread the AP signal and started a minute early... But that's how you learn! Nick and Dave had a fine battle at the front of the fleet with Nick cleverly overtaking on the reach sailing by the lee. Dave managed to reassert his lead in the next lap. The third lap took almost twice the time of the second and this led to some interesting results that favoured the boats that only managed to complete 2 laps! The course was shortened for the second race due to the diminishing wind strength and the helms had an interesting time coaxing their craft round as the tide became a more dominant feature in the racing equation. Congratulations to all the juniors for their great efforts in Fevas, Topper and Picos. You're a credit to the club . Finally, thanks to Helen and helpers for a great Galley service, the cake was wonderful!

What a glorious morning and wonderful start to the season!

It was so great to see the cadets bonding and getting used to being back on the water. It was really nice to have a few new members joining the fun and getting stuck in with the others. Well done to the ‘big’ cadets who got some sailing time in too!

Racing on 6th April was windy and cold but 6 sailors braved the conditions. Dave, Olaf, Gary, Graham, Lester and Guy ventured out. A late launch hampered by waves left only Dave on course for the start line, but sadly went off course missing the third race mark, leaving Lester to win, Olaf second. There were many capsizes, but Gary and Graham seem to be getting to grips with the new Aero’s. The wind picked up for start of the seconds race with the magnificent flying machines close together, again Dave stole the line with seconds to spare. The winner was Dave, followed by Guy, then Olaf. Freezing cold the safety crew were keen to get ashore but sailors stayed out for a few reaching blasts before coming ashore. A fantastic days sailingat HBSC.
