A week to remember.

Three days, 132 competitors and some of the best young golfers from across the UK and beyond came together at Heswall for the North of England Under 16 Open Championship.

The weather certainly provided its own challenge. After completing the opening round, storms and lightning brought play to a halt on Thursday. With no further play possible, the cut was made after 18 holes, leaving the remaining competitors to face the 36 holes scheduled for the final day.

And what a final day it was.

Congratulations to Ezra Hartland of Cooden Beach Golf Club , who claimed the Boys' Championship with a score of 216, finishing one shot clear to become the 2026 North of England Under 16 Open Champion.

Congratulations also to Maybel Brooks of Gog Magog Golf Club, who claimed the Girls' Championship with an excellent score of 227.

With 228 applications and a field of 132, the strength of the championship was clear from the outset. European Ranking Points were awarded for the first time, with the event also forming part of the pathway to the 2026 Justin Rose Telegraph Junior Golf Championship.

For Heswall, hosting the championship has been one of the highlights of our year. The atmosphere around the club and the quality of golf made it a genuinely special week.

Our thanks to everyone who played a part — our staff, greenkeepers, volunteers, tournament organisers, referees, Cheshire.Golf, England Golf, parents and supporters. And, of course, to every competitor who brought their talent and determination to Heswall and made the championship such a pleasure to host.

We were proud to host the North of England Under 16 Open and look forward to welcoming it back next year.

Lucy’s U.S. Mid-Am Journey Continues

Following an excellent 73–68 across the two stroke-play rounds, Heswall’s Lucy Jamieson finished as co-medalist and has secured her place in the Round of 64 at the 39th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, held at Montclair Golf Club in West Orange, New Jersey.

Lucy takes on Lauren Greenlief at 17:30 GMT today.

Another fantastic achievement for Lucy and a great opportunity to continue her run at one of the biggest events of the amateur calendar.

Final day at Heswall.

The remaining 49 competitors have been back on the course this morning, battling both the conditions and each other as they take on 36 holes to decide the North of England Under 16 Open Championship.

The weather has made for a challenging start, but with the afternoon ahead and everything still to play for, we’re looking forward to seeing how the final stages of the championship unfold.
