Great fun bow making yesterday! Gary, Nigel & Craig made 3 really nice ash bows in a single day, fully tillered to their draw lengths

Tomorrow we are bow making 🏹. We have 3 students for the Introduction course that will see them hand craft an ash longbow in a day focusing heavily on the tillering process aiming for a full compass English longbow. It’s an intensive course not only designed to give them a bow to be proud of, but to also set them up for their bow making journey as well.

We’ve certainly been hit by a few seasons today but despite the rain and wind, it hasn’t dampened spirits. It’s definitely a time when I am grateful that we have a shelter to enjoy this experience under!

Any old iron!? Not every day is about making bows, fletching arrows or playing cowboys! Sometimes it’s a bit more repetitive as needs must and in this case I needed to make the hardware for the sword school that we are delivering at the Chalke History Festival. It’s certainly a good use for all the scraps and off cuts of metal cluttering the corner of the forge!

It’s been a fun day today with a couple of friends who volunteered to test out a potential new course making coffee scoops
