Heysham atoms U11s welcomed Woolston to king George's field today both teams bringing good number allowing us to play full pitch 13 a side .Woolston won the toss and decided to receive the kick atoms chased up well and defended utilising line speed tackling in pairs and pinning all to their advantage this pressure causing several knock ons and turnovers during the match . Woolston tested our defence with some big forward runners and equally quick backs. Atoms used their usual combo of a couple of forward runners before passing it out wide which worked out well for us causing several good breaks although woolston defence did keep us pinned in our own half several times. Excellent performance from both sides on a surprisingly hot day. Thanks to Woolston for travelling up in such great numbers and good luck for rest of the season

Atoms u9s / u10s -
Blackpool Stanley

The first outing for the blended u9s / u10s Atoms team welcomed Blackpool Stanley to KG on a lovely morning for a great game of rugby.
From the off it was an even game with both sides having great attacking phases and with that, great defending phases.
As the game progressed the Atoms got a foothold in the game utilising the size and strength of the u10s with the speed and footwork of the u9s.
A good try to note was a strong run by Freddie F down the channel who sucked in 4-5 players trying to stop him, Layton C supported his run and got the offload and nipped in for the try. Great teamwork and support. Set the tone for the day really.
The defensive line was strong and all players put in their bit to stop tries here and there with great covering off and bravery. Oscar S was standout putting every attack down in a full set of 6, not giving anyone the chance to attack.
Joseph H relished the task of playing ho**er and being able to scoot which they can’t do in u9s. His speed and step with support from Harrison H and Layton C led to some great tries down the wings.
Blackpool put in a solid game, giving the Atoms problems with good footwork and passing in attack.
All round a great game from a team that hasn’t played together before.

Wigan St Jude’s U12s 16–28 Heysham Atoms U12s

Heysham Atoms U12s produced their best performance of the season so far to come away from Wigan St Jude’s with a 28–16 win.

It was a big turnaround from the opening game of the season when the Atoms were beaten 36–6 by the same opposition.

Heysham started strongly and Albie opened the scoring with his first try for the club. Stanley was next over soon after with a fantastic weaving run. Bobby crossed for the third after a great cross-field kick from Dylan which was converted.

Alf then added another converted try to put Heysham 20 points up before St Jude’s responded with a try of their own just before the break.

The Atoms started the second half as they had the first with Albie going over out wide for his second try of the game.

Ashton then added another following some good work through the middle and ran the ball in from the half way line taking the score to 28–4.

For the first 33 minutes, Heysham were almost faultless. The defence worked hard for each other, the effort was excellent and with the ball the Atoms caused St Jude’s problems throughout.

The final seven minutes were a different story as the effort began to take its toll. St Jude’s put Heysham under sustained pressure and took advantage of some tired defending to score three tries in quick succession.

Despite the late pressure, Heysham had done enough and deservedly finished 28–16 winners.

There were plenty of good performances across the team with a few deserving a special mention. Albie picked up his first two tries for the Atoms, while Stanley put in a huge amount of extra effort and was excellent in both attack and defence.
Ashton also had an excellent game at centre, carrying the ball for more than 100 metres over the course of the match and adding a try of his own.

More than anything though, it was the overall team performance that stood out. To turn a 36–6 defeat at the beginning of the season into a 28–16 win against the same side shows the progress this group is making.

Heysham Atoms U11s travelled down to Blackbrook today travelling through some awful weather and even worse traffic to arrive eventually for a late KO . The Atoms played some of the best rugby we have seen from this bunch the line speed and defence from the start was the best we have seen all season , we had success in attack utilising a couple of forward runners before shipping it out to our backs , the defence continued to hold out against some strong forward runners from Blackbrook, also having to contend with some very fast wingers whose kick and chase game was above what we are used to . Thanks to Blackbrook for a warm welcome and a good hard game and for being so patient with the traffic issues

The young lads are really getting to grips with it now, our big power house Bobby scoring a hat trick of tries all very similar. Steaming on to the ball off the back fence! Some solid defence in the middle too earning him opposition MOM. Today’s second Hat trick was scored by Arthur scoring 3 different tries. 1 in each corner and 1 straight through the middle. Josh also scored 3 tries. He loves a long range try. But I was really impressed with his defence today. Coaches MOM was Stanley whose improvement not only through the season but in the matches today was immense showing some great footwork to score a long range effort dancing down the touch line. Great attitude and bravery shown after a nervy start for that young man.
Vincent was the steady player in the middle that every team needs. Plenty of strong drives and important tackles. Teddy another showing a good attitude in the latter stages to be involved and getting amongst it after a cold and wet start.

This Saturday sees our Open Age Men welcome Hindley to KG’s for the last game of the season for the Atoms, it’s been a tough old season for the lads but they’ve stuck at it, so please come down and show them your support.

🔥🏉 HISTORY MADE! 🏉🔥

Today was a massive day for the club as three Atoms ladies had the incredible opportunity to be part of something truly special — the first ever all-ladies Fat Monkey team! 💪❤️

Our very own Clare, Hannah and Joanne have been training for this moment all season, travelling, learning and meeting some absolutely amazing ladies along the way. And today, all that hard work paid off! 👏

But the surprises didn't stop there… 👀

The ladies had the absolute honour of having Genna Banks as their coach. What they didn't know was that Genna wasn't just going to coach them… she was pulling on the boots and playing alongside them! 🤩🔥

Then came surprise number two…

We thought we'd got another special guest turning up to referee the game — which would have been amazing in itself. But then we discovered her boots were in the bag! 😲

The first ever female Super League referee, Tara Jones, took to the pitch alongside them! 🏉👏

And if that wasn't enough, we also had the huge honour of having World Cup referee Lewis O'Brien in the middle. What a line-up! ⭐

And then it was time to play…

❤️ Clare grabbed the opening try after a fantastic set of hands across the pitch created the opportunity for her to finish it off!

🎯 Joanne picked up two assists, helping create opportunities for her teammates.

💪 Hannah put in some fantastic defensive efforts, showing exactly why she's become such an important part of the team.

But perhaps the best part of all?

Three Atoms ladies taking to the pitch with absolutely massive smiles on their faces. 🥰❤️

Today wasn't just about the rugby.

It was about friendship.
It was about opportunity.
It was about women showing what they can do.
And most importantly…
