Coach Stu went with home counties elite champion Tate Murphy to compete in Birmingham today against home favourite Tom Sherrington of Anderson ABC.
It was a lovely venue with a boisterous crowd, Tate and Tom were on second to last so the crowd were in full voice by the time they were due to box.
Round one began with the home fighter coming out orthodox, but a quick paced combo from Murphy saw the Home fighter revert back to his familiar southpaw stance. Tate had undertaken plenty of high quality southpaw sparring recently so the switch didn't faze him in any way. Tate did exactly what Tate does, soaked up any pressure with a super tight guard then countered with high volume, heavy shots.
Round two saw the Warriors boxer take control of ring center and back the home fighter up, Tate continued to throw punches in bunches and sealed the round in style.
Round three saw the Home fighter attacking relentlessly, he knew he was behind and needed a big round, but Tate went every moment with him, some fabulous exchanges followed, mainly with the High Wycombe fighter finishing them off.
It was a little surprising to hear split decision from the show MC but it often happens away from home in front of a boisterous crowd. However Tate still got the win via 4-1 spilt decision and showed exactly why he is the number one under 70kg fighter in the home counties.

**** FIGHT NEWS ****

Club captain Jamil Sheppherd and coach Stu made the long journey to Chatteris in Cambridgeshire for Jamil to box home club boxer Fen Spartas Morgan Wright. The match started with Wright attacking like a man possessed, he sometimes recklessly threw himself at Sheppherd who kept his composure and slipped and countered his way through the first winning the round with some accurate work. The second stanza began like the first, Wright relentlessly attacking whilst Jamil boxed mainly on the counter, the home fighter had more success with his work this round though and edged it. The third was super close, both fighters had their moments and both landed some clean heavy shots. It was almost impossible to split the pair and as often happens, the home fighter took a tight 3-2 split decision win.

Coach Stu took Adam Mohamed Taylor to two shows this weekend allowing the Warriors boxer to compete in his first two contests without the headguards as a senior.
First up Adam was up against Jake Tillen from home club Thames Valley at the impressive Newbury race track. The pair had shared many sparring sessions in the past and we knew the contest would be an exciting one.
It didn't disappoint, from the opening bell the pair met in ring center and began to exchange. It was an impossibly close contest with Adams slightly cleaner work edging the decision on a 3'2 spilt.
Adam would have travel again this time to the Guildford City ABC home show in Godalming, Surrey again taking on a home boxer this time he'd be facing Ben Sica.
The contest opened with Adam keeping his shorter opponent at bay behind lots of clever feints and a sharp jab, he got drawn into a fight midway through the round but was happy to sit in and exchange, showing good inside work, the remaining two rounds followed a similar pattern, with Adam boxing well from range, but more than happy to fight when required.
Next weekend sees Adam go again along with Tate and Jamil.

Three Warriors boxers out today. Coach Stu went with Oliver Wachowiz, Dominic Quigley and Bassel Ibrahim to the Atherstone home show in the East Midlands. All boxers were competing against fighters from the home club.

First up was Oliver. Round one was a messy affair, styles didn't really gel and there was a lot of holding. Round two Oliver found a home for some good combination punching and saw the round out really well hurting his opponent. Round 3 started the same way, with Oliver landing some heavy blows and forcing the ref to issue a standing 8. Shortly after Wachowiz landed another flurry of heavy blows leading the ref to bring the contest to an end. Wachowiz wins RSC 3

Next up was Dominic in his second contest in a few weeks. From the off the taller warriors boxer took ring center and kept his opponent on the end of a sharp jab, once he got close, he let his hands go in clusters, regularly landing hurtful looking shots to head and body. We were not long in to the senior stanza when another flurry of shots would result in the home fighter receiving a standing 8. One or two busy spells later and following a big right uppercut the ref would have seen enough and called the contest to an end. Quigley wins RSC 2

Lastly was Bassel who decided to box despite being hampered by a two day long stomach issue. This on its own makes him a winner in my eyes. Round one was a super close affair, nothing to really split either fighter. Round two was much the same, close contest without a huge amount of clean work from either boxer, round three followed a similar pattern. At the end of 3 rounds, the judges found in favour of the home fighter by way of unanimous decision, but Ibrahim can find comfort in putting in a great shift despite being a long way from being fully fit.
