Coaches Stu and Iggy accompanied Ollie, Adam, Jay and Jamil to today's Home Counties development finals in Carterton Oxfordshire.
Boxing first in a semi final and opening the show was Oliver Wachowiz competing against unbeaten Aylesbury ABC boxer Marcarious Parsons.
Parsons started the contest super aggressive, a little too so as Ollie picked him off on the way in with crisp right hands and compact hooks, it was a messy affair with Parsons smothering his work on such regular basis the referee found it necessary to issue a warning. Into the second the same pattern continued, Ollie picking nice of range single shots and Parsons continued to fall in forcing his head low, this resulted in another warning. The third started in exactly the same way with the referee having seen enough and disqualified the Aylesbury boxer, Ollie now boxes tomorrow to try and win the home counties title.
Next up was Adam Mohamed Taylor, Adam had won his semi final match the previous Saturday in fine style and went into his contest with Bellator ABC Arif Choudrhy full of confidence. The first round started at a very high pace with the super aggressive southpaw Choudry looking to land huge shots from the opening bell, Adam boxed beautifully off the back foot cracking his opponent with sharp right hands and heavy hooks, but there was always something coming back from the tenacious Choudry.
In round 2 Adam decided he had to hold his feet and fight fire with fire and what followed was superb, , it ebbed and flowed with both fighters landing telling combos. Going into the third it was anyones fight and it instantly caught fire. I could be wordy and describe the beauty of the exchanges, but I'm just going to say they had a proper tear up. Well done lads.
Choudry ended up winning a decision in a contest that both lads looked incredibly happy to have been a part of.
Next up was Jay Eteen he again had won last week's semi final to book his place in today's final and he felt in bullish mood beforehand. His heavily muscled opponent would be Marek Piuss from Bletchley ABC. The first round began with a short feeling out spell before Piuss dropped short with a jab and got countered with a sharp right hand. This set the tempo of the contest with the incredibly game Piuss trying really hard, but just getting hit with the better shots and more often, Eteens combination punching was a always on point and he both outworked and outboxed the game Piuss. Unanimous win for Jay and he is now a home counties champion 👊🏼 into next weeks pre quarter final against Western Counties.
Last up was Jamil. He was matched with Nathan Loveridge from Rough and Ready ABC the first round couldn't have gone much better for the High Wycombe boxer, he landed his right hand almost at will and took the opener with reasonable ease. Round two however saw Loveridge come right back into the contest, he came out super aggressive and landed some quality shots, Loveridge round. The third was a really messy affair, both fighters had worked very hard and they both held a lot of fell in often, it was a close round which could have easily gone both ways which explained a split decision victory to the very nice and we wish him well Nathan Loveridge.
Oliver boxes tomorrow morning at Hoddesdon ABC in the final.
