Perfect active rest day

Two hours at the beach this afternoon, followed by a short walk up to Old Nessebar for lunch and a latte.

Now walking back to the flat the long way — because why take the short route when you can get a few extra steps in? 😂

Then a chilled night on the balcony.

Active rest days are great because they give your body time to recover while keeping you gently moving, helping with circulation, mobility and energy without putting too much strain on your body.

Sun, sea, good food, plenty of walking and quality time with Robert.

Sometimes you just need to get up and give it a try.

This morning my body felt tired. I’d slept longer than normal and honestly debated whether I could be bothered going out for some extra steps — especially knowing we’re already walking 45 minutes each way to the restaurant tonight.

But it’s a lovely walk, I enjoy being outdoors, so I got ready and went.

And I’m so glad I did.

The sun was shining, the sea was beautiful, and along my walk I passed a family with a young man in his early 30s using a white walking stick.

It made me stop and think about how privileged I am to be able to see the things I sometimes take for granted — the kids playing on the sand dunes, families cycling, the ocean, the sunshine and everything around me.

So why am I posting this?

Because we all have challenges.

We all have days when we feel tired, unmotivated or just can’t be bothered.

But sometimes the biggest challenge is simply taking that first step.

We can focus on the reasons not to do something, or we can give it a try.

And you never know… you might actually enjoy it.

It doesn’t have to be walking.
It could be the gym.
Swimming.
A workout at home.
Getting outside for some fresh air.

Don’t wait until you feel motivated. Take the first step and let the motivation follow.

And today, I’m grateful that I did cise

You don’t have to be perfect to make progress.

You don’t need hours of exercise.
And you don’t need to wait until Monday to start again.

Sometimes it’s simply getting outside, walking, moving your body and giving your mind some time to breathe.

I’m on holiday, but I’m still making movement part of my day — because looking after yourself shouldn’t stop just because you’re away.

Small choices, repeated consistently, create big changes.

Enjoy your life. Enjoy your food. Enjoy your holidays.

But keep moving. Keep looking after yourself.

Your health matters every day — not just when you’re trying to lose weight

The Tortoise & The Hare

Robert went off for a cycle… I decided a power walk was more my style!

3 miles done in 45–50 minutes — and I took the reverse route from my normal walk.

Well… that hill certainly felt different going this way! I didn’t realise quite how much of a slant it had until I was walking UP it. 🙈

Not quite at 10,000 steps yet, but it’s still early in the day, so there’s plenty of time to get them in.

As I headed out, the tortoise and the hare came to mind. 🐢🐇

It’s not always about being the fastest. It’s about keeping moving, staying consistent and getting there in the end.

Robert = cycle 🚴‍♂️
Me = power walk 🚶‍♀️
Both = movement, fresh air and a positive mindset!

What’s your preference — cycle or walk

As a Personal Trainer, gaining 2 stone (over 12kg) came as a huge shock to me. Here’s what happened…

17 months. 2 stone 7lbs lighter.

And before anyone thinks, “But you’re a PT… you should know how to keep your weight off” — I want to say something.

Even Personal Trainers struggle.

Even when you know about nutrition.
Even when you understand exercise.
Even when you spend your days motivating other people.

Sometimes life happens, and knowing what to do doesn’t always mean you have the capacity to do it.

For me, grief, menopause, hormones and the emotional impact of living with a pituitary gland tumour for the past 25 years all collided at once.

Putting on 2 stone over 2 years was something I never expected to happen to me.

My body had been in a constant state of fight-or-flight following the sudden loss of my dad. My mindset and confidence took a huge dip — but I hid that from everyone around me.

I remember a friend once telling me that grief can take around 3 years before you really learn to cope with everyday life again.

Something clicked.

My switch went back on, and I decided it was time to find my old self again.

17 months later… 2 stone 7lbs down.

But this journey has taught me that weight loss is about so much more than the number on the scales.

Now my focus shifts to maintaining my progress, strengthening my mindset, listening to my body, staying hydrated, prioritising protein, and keeping active through daily movement and steps.

The weight-loss journey may be complete, but my health and fitness journey certainly isn’t.

And that’s why I’m sharing this.

Because if you’re struggling, going through menopause, dealing with grief, feeling like you’ve lost yourself, or simply wondering if you can get back on track — you absolutely can.

Cooking your pasta or rice in Planet Paleo bone broth can add around 13–14g of protein per serving, while also adding loads of flavour.

Just remember — it’s an extra protein boost, not a replacement for your main protein source. Still add your chicken, prawns, tuna, lean mince, tofu etc. to make the meal properly protein-rich

WALKING — IT COSTS NOTHING BUT GIVES YOU SO MUCH!

On Sunday, I decided to challenge myself.

Instead of jumping in the car for my usual journey, I decided to walk.

That little decision turned into around an 8-mile power walk round trip!

Was I tired? YES!
Were my legs feeling it? Definitely!
Did I feel great afterwards? ABSOLUTELY!

And it wasn’t just my body that benefited — my headspace felt amazing too.

Walking can help:
• Improve cardiovascular fitness
• Increase daily calorie expenditure
• Build lower-body strength and endurance
• Support mobility and joint health
• Reduce stress and clear your mind
• Boost your mood and create a more positive mindset
• Give you time away from screens and everyday distractions

And the best part?

It costs absolutely NOTHING.

Sometimes, the simplest additions to your day can make a huge difference to both your physical health and your mindset.

So next time you’re about to jump in the car for a journey that you could walk…

Challenge yourself. Get your trainers on and WALK!

Your body — and your headspace — might thank you for it.
