(Experienced members welcome too join to pass on knowledge and experiences)

Workshop at the Club to cover the following:

Paddling gear
Personal gear
Camping gear
Food
Stoves, pans etc
Should have/must have items
Navigation
Tents/Tarps
Sleeping gear
Packing gear into bags, barrels; how to carry them in/on your chosen craft
Practice paddling with gear??

TRIP ONE: A trip down part of the Ashby Canal then camping one night at the club

Shake down experience does your kit do the job??
Are you warm, dry and comfortable?
Can you cook a good meal?
After camping are you still warm, dry and comfortable in the morning??

TRIP TWO: Leicestershire River Soar trip one night out (longer trip more to do on route)

Trialing your gear choice
Decision making
Navigation
Portage (Issues and how to make it happen ??)
Paddling techniques loaded and over a longer distance

The aim is for this experience to be FUN and ENJOYABLE

📌IMPORTANT UPDATE📌
☀️With a couple of blue skies seen this week, we’re beginning to think about getting back out on the water!
🚣 Whilst you’ve been tucked up in the warm over the winter, the HWAC Committee have been hard at work looking at ways to continue to make our club a safe, supportive and enjoyable environment for everyone on the water.
🛟As our community continues to grow, we want to ensure we maintain the high standards of coaching, safety and experience that define us.
🧠With this in mind, we are now limiting numbers for coached paddlers to 40 participants per session.
This decision has been made in the best interests of our members and coaches. By managing group sizes carefully, we can:
• Maintain high safety standards on the water
• Ensure every paddler receives quality coaching and support
• Protect the wellbeing of both members and coaches
• Preserve the welcoming, inclusive atmosphere that makes our club special
Safety and enjoyment have always been our priorities, and this change allows us to continue delivering the best possible experience for everyone involved.
