What happens when you retire from your team sport?

The games stop.

The habits don’t.

For years, rugby was my focus. As a forward, my goal was simple:

Get bigger.
Get stronger.
Become harder to move at scrum time.

Carrying extra weight wasn’t a problem—it was often an advantage.

At my heaviest, I weighed 121kg.

Strong? Absolutely. Probably the strongest I’ve ever been.

Healthy? That’s debatable.

The problem is nobody really talks about what happens when rugby starts to disappear from your life.

The training volume drops.

The matches stop.

The structure disappears.

The injuries remind you they’re still there every morning.

But the eating habits and the drinking habits often stay exactly the same.

That’s where many former players get caught out.

These days, I’m still chasing strength.

But I’m also trying to lose some body fat so I can move better, feel better and stay capable.

Not because I want six-pack abs.

Not because I want to look like a fitness influencer.

At 41 years old, I couldn’t care less about that.

I want a body that still works.

One that allows me to coach athletes, demonstrate movements properly, enjoy family life and stay active for years to come.

The goal isn’t to be the biggest bloke in the room.

The goal is to be the most capable.

Because rugby may finish.

But looking after yourself shouldn’t.

Has rugby retirement—or simply getting older while still playing—changed how you think about training?

Drop me a DM and let’s chat about staying strong, fit and athletic in your 40s and beyond.

🏉 Strength & Conditioning Announcement 🏉

I can officially announce that I have the great honour of becoming the Strength & Conditioning Coach for

Having played my final years of rugby with the lads, it’ll be great to finally be on the other side of pre-season for once.

We’ll begin with a solid block of General Physical Preparedness to build the foundations the squad needs, before progressing into structured overload phases and finally focusing on specificity — ensuring the lads are physically prepared and ready to perform come August.

Excited for the work ahead.
💙 💛 🏉

Online coaching for ex athletes !

Finished playing sport… but not ready to lose who you were?

I get it — because I’m going through it too.

One minute you’ve got structure, training, competition — a reason to push yourself.
Then it ends. And no one really tells you what comes next.

You’re still competitive.
You still want to train.
But it’s not the same… and it’s easy to lose that edge.

That’s exactly why I’ve started this.

Not just to coach — but to build something for people like us.

Ex-athletes who aren’t done yet.

I’m on this journey as well — figuring out how to train with purpose again, how to stay strong, disciplined, and in shape without a season to prepare for.

And I’m bringing you with me.

This isn’t random workouts.
This is structure. Routine. Standards.

✔️ Rebuild your strength
✔️ Stay lean and athletic
✔️ Keep that competitive mindset
✔️ Train with intent again

You might not play anymore…
But that doesn’t mean you stop being an athlete.

If you’re in that same position —

Let’s figure it out together.

Funny weekend, went to watch the Butnham first 15 take on Clacton to win the league, Clacton turned up with a bare 15 so In true rugby fashion myself and few other stepped up to support them. A big win for Burnham and a couple of clips of me jogging round the field, a carry , couple of lineout steels and a tackle with terrible technique. Thanks to for giving us a few minutes , I’m in claret wearing no19

I’ll be holding back tears and watching this amazing event

TRT , test boosters ! Here’s my thoughts on the matter

Feel like you don’t know what you’re doing in the gym?

You’re not alone — and it’s NOT your fault.

Most people walk into the gym with:
• No clear plan
• No idea what works
• Overwhelm from too much conflicting advice

And if you’re neurodivergent, it can feel even harder:
Too busy. Too loud. Too many unwritten “rules.”

That’s where I come in.

My online coaching is built for people who want:
✔ Simple, structured training (no guesswork)
✔ Clear guidance every step of the way
✔ A calm, supportive approach — no pressure, no judgement
✔ Flexibility to suit YOUR routine and energy

You don’t need to “figure it out” on your own.

I’ll give you a plan that actually makes sense — and help you stick to it.

Remember when training didn’t feel like a chore…
It felt like competition. Banter. Being part of a team.

Now it’s long work days, stiff joints, and saying
“I’ll start next week.”

But here’s the truth — you don’t need to go back in time.
You just need the right environment.

At Hardy Strength and Fitness Group Sessions, we bring that feeling back:
✔️ Team-based training (without the injuries)
✔️ Competitive but supportive atmosphere
✔️ Structured sessions designed for 40+ men
✔️ Build strength, fitness, and energy again

No ego. No pressure. Just lads getting back in shape together.

If you’ve been missing that team sport buzz… this is it.
