After a really enjoyable game against Drayton Jets previously, the boys were looking forward to another great game of football on Sunday.
We arrived in our away shirts — which, being white, probably wasn’t the best choice for the conditions!
Holt started brightly and got the first goal through a fantastic team move, with Freddie providing the assist for Chester to finish. That makes it two weeks in a row on the scoresheet for Chester — great work! 👏⚽
The boys had already planned their celebration, and with the pitch being nice and wet, they decided a belly slide was the perfect way to celebrate. Cue the expected reaction from the parents as our lovely white away shirts became considerably less white! 😂 Muddy shirts, happy boys — probably worth it!
Drayton responded well and a lapse in concentration allowed them back into the game. They began to put us under some pressure and looked to take control before half-time.
The boys came out strongly after the break and played some much better football, showing greater composure and confidence on the ball. Their efforts were rewarded when Henry scored his first goal for the team, finishing off a great move after Logan worked hard down the wing and delivered the ball perfectly for him to slot home. 👏⚽
As the game went on, Drayton regained some momentum and managed to score a couple of late goals to take the win.
The boys faced some tough conditions, with a difficult playing surface making it challenging to play the football we wanted at times, but there were plenty of positives to take from the game.
