Well… here we are.
After 10 years, countless skirmishes, thousands of BBs, questionable tactical decisions, heroic moments, completely unnecessary arguments about who was hit… and enough mud to probably qualify Camp Bravo as its own wetland habitat…
This weekend, we say goodbye to Camp Bravo.
And, if I’m honest, it’s a pretty strange feeling.
For the last 10 years, this place has been more than just a patch of woodland where people run around shooting each other with plastic.
It’s been a place where friendships were made, rivalries were created, stories were born — and where, occasionally, someone discovered that sprinting downhill in wet boots is not the tactical masterstroke they thought it was.
We’ve seen incredible games here.
We’ve seen people arrive as complete strangers and leave as mates. We’ve watched new players discover ai***ft for the first time, and we’ve watched some of you become frighteningly obsessed with it.
We’ve had laughs, arguments, ridiculous moments, spectacular fails, heroic last stands, accidental friendly fire… and probably more stories than any of us could ever remember.
And that’s really what Camp Bravo has been about.
The memories.
So, to every single customer who has walked through these gates over the last 10 years — thank you.
Thank you for turning up.
Thank you for playing.
Thank you for getting muddy.
Thank you for putting up with the weather.
Thank you for the laughs.
Thank you for the banter.
Thank you for trusting us with your weekends, your birthdays, your stag dos, your mates, and quite possibly your sanity.
Without you, Camp Bravo would simply have been a bit of woodland with some buildings in it.
You made it what it was.
And then there are the people who deserve a very special thank you…
Our marshals.
To every marshal who has stood out here in the freezing cold, the pouring rain, the blazing sun, and occasionally weather that frankly should have resulted in the game being cancelled…
Thank you.
Thank you for putting up with players who absolutely, definitely, unquestionably did not get hit.
Thank you for the people who mysteriously became deaf whenever someone shouted “HIT!”
Thank you for explaining the same rules over and over again.
Thank you for running around after us, keeping us safe, keeping games moving, dealing with the arguments, and generally bringing some degree of order to what is essentially a large group of adults pretending to be action heroes.
You’ve given up your time, your weekends, your energy — and quite often your patience — to make this place work.
And we genuinely couldn’t have done it without you.
So, from all of us: thank you.
But…
This isn’t really the end.
Because while Camp Bravo is closing its gates, the story doesn’t stop here.
Just up the road, at Gunman Ai***ft Alpha, the BBs will continue to fly, the marshals will continue to shout, and somebody will still insist they weren’t hit despite there being a perfect six-foot-long welt on their arm.
We’ll still be running skirmishes at Alpha, so this isn’t goodbye to Gunman Ai***ft.
It’s simply goodbye to Camp Bravo.
And perhaps, in years to come, people will stand around at Alpha telling new players:
“Back in my day, we used to play at Bravo…”
And, inevitably, the story will become increasingly exaggerated.
By 2035, someone will probably claim they once defended the Bravo fort single-handedly against 400 players for six hours using nothing but a pistol and a packet of Haribo.
And we'll all know that's absolute rubbish.
But that’s the great thing about places like this.
They leave stories behind.
So today, we’re not just closing a site.
We’re closing a chapter.
A chapter filled with 10 years of friendships, laughter, ridiculous moments, muddy boots, broken gear, sore legs, missed shots, questionable tactics, brilliant games and memories that will hopefully stay with all of us for a very long time.
To everyone who has ever played here:
Thank you for being part of Camp Bravo.
To every marshal:
Thank you for making it possible.
And to everyone who has worked behind the scenes over the years:
Thank you for everything you’ve done.
Camp Bravo may be closing…
…but the people, the friendships and the memories don’t disappear when we walk out of these gates.
So let’s raise a metaphorical glass — or, knowing this crowd, probably a can of something from the boot of a car — to the last 10 years.
To the good games.
To the terrible games.
To the unbelievable stories.
To the friendships.
To the laughs.
To the people who said, “I’ll just play one more game” and somehow found themselves still here six hours later.
And, of course…
To Camp Bravo.
Thank you, Bravo.
It’s been an absolute privilege.
Now let’s go and make one last memory.
And remember…
If you didn’t get hit today, you definitely weren’t playing hard enough.
Thank you, everyone.
See you at Alpha.
