We’re delighted to share the news that our U15’s sensation Martha Potts has signed for Huddersfield Town U15’s Girls!

Martha has been at the club since she was 5 and has always excelled in her team. She has a resilience of never giving in and is so determined to improve.

This new move for her is well earned and something we’re all really proud of at the club.

Don’t worry though, Martha can still play with our U15’s so you will still see her down at Slazengers giving her all for the Red and Black!

⚽️ MATCH REPORT | GEMS 💎

The Gems were back in action today for their second game of the season at Slazengers.

The girls had to contend with some difficult conditions, with plenty of wind and rain, but once again they showed a fantastic attitude from the very first whistle.

They were relentless in their play, really switched on out of possession and pressing with determination as a team. When the ball was won back, the girls looked to attack with pace, showing some really clever forward movement and combining brilliantly to create opportunities.

The Gems found the net a number of times, but one of the most pleasing aspects of today’s performance was at the other end of the pitch. The girls defended superbly as a team, worked hard for one another and showed real determination to finish the game with a clean sheet.

More important than any result, though, is the attitude these girls continue to show towards their football and their development. Their commitment, enthusiasm and willingness to learn makes this team an absolute pleasure to coach.

It’s a real privilege to be trusted by the club and by the parents to play a small part in the girls’ footballing journey, and we’re incredibly proud of the progress they continue to make.

A special thank you to our guest referee today, Hayley! Hayley was the person who started the Horbury Gems and remains one of the girls’ biggest cheerleaders, so it was brilliant to have her out there sharing another part of their journey with them.

A big thank you to Woodkirk Valley Girls U9s for today’s game. We wish all the girls, coaches and families the very best for the rest of the season and their future footballing endeavours.

WHAT A START FOR THE GEMS!

Today our girls finally played their first league game and what a way to start!

The Gems came away with a fantastic team performance that resulted in lots of goals, a dominant game, but what pleased us most wasn’t the result, it was the way the girls played.

Everything we’ve been working on in training over the last few months was there to see. Confidence on the ball, passing and moving, working hard for each other, winning the ball back with determination and then having the composure to play.

Every girl contributed. They encouraged each other, celebrated each other’s successes and played with huge smiles on their faces.

For their first league game together, we couldn’t have asked for much more.

If these girls continue to show the same attitude, togetherness and willingness to learn, they’ve got an exciting season ahead of them.

A brilliant first league game and a very proud coaching team!

Make sure you don’t miss out and just explain to Jayne on the gate which age group team your child belongs to.

Our U6’s are mascots so it will be a great occasion for them and they get to do a mini match at halftime!

𝐇𝐎𝐌𝐄 𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐅 📆

If there’s ever a positive of a busy schedule, it’s the opportunity to not dwell on a disappointing result and have the chance to put it right a few days later.

Saturday sees Horbury back on home soil as they face Keighley Town FC who come into this fixture still searching for their first victory of the season; something our club were doing this time last year.

To put into perspective our start so far, whilst the last two league games have seen Horbury fall to narrow defeats, the club have clocked up eight points from the opening six, five points more than this time last season. Add that to the progression in the FA Cup to two further rounds, it’s been a positive start.

For this weekend only, we would like to offer the opportunity for any parent of a player in our junior section to come down and support for a heavily discounted fee. It’s massively important to the club and the community that the support of our side starts with those in our junior ranks. Any parent who brings their child on Saturday, will pay just £2 entry.

A massive thanks to The Halpenny for sponsoring this one again and to our U6s who’ll be mascots for the day.

Let’s put the last seven days behind us and move forward once again as we go in search of eleven points; something which took Horbury until the 1st November last season to achieve.

The U23s are still on the lookout for talented individuals to join the club.

Games take place most Monday evenings at the home of Hemsworth Miners Welfare, 715 or 830 kick offs.

A great pathway into showcasing yourself with the opportunities to play semi professional football.
