Itโs true; races can be - and are, won or
lost in the pit lane ๐
Mikey secured our best Sprint Cup qualifying result since Brands Hatch on Sunday morning. The No.5 McLaren therefore lined up for the second race of the weekend second in Silver Cup, with Mikey behind the wheel. The McLaren GT3 Junior swapped into the class lead on the start and held on until the mandatory pit window.
However, elation turned to frustration after Guilherme was delayed leaving the pit box, dropping the No.5 McLaren from the class lead, down into the middle of the pack, which ultimately meant the duo finished 8th.
The issue in the pit lane was even more disappointing given as Optimumโs pit crew had completed their fastest wheel change of the season, and hoped that would reflect with an equally impressive total stop time.
We may not have been rewarded this time, but weโll come back even more determined and even faster in Barcelona, for the final Sprint Cup round of the 2026
season in a fortnight.
