Did you know that our unconscious desires can play a significant role in our self-sabotaging behaviours - particularly when it comes to how we cope with stress or uncomfortable emotions?
One of the more common motivations behind such dysregulation is the deep-rooted need for comfort or security.
When these particular needs lie beneath our awareness, they can manifest as a need for unhealthy coping strategies.
This can look like turning to food for support, overindulging in alcohol, or seeking distraction through endless Netflix series.
Although these actions may offer relief in the short term, or a fleeting sense of safety, they often go against our longer-term health goals.
The unconscious mind's desire for comfort can push us to avoid dealing with the very emotions or situations that need our attention...
Which then prolongs this cycle of dysregulated behaviour ๐คฏ
Recognising these unconscious desires is often the first step towards finding coping mechanisms.
When we acknowledge that the things we crave might not be food, entertainment, or avoidance, but a deeper sense of security, we can begin to address that need directly.
In doing so, we begin to move away from those automatic, unhealthy patterns and create space for a more deliberate response that we can then take conscious actions upon.
When we allow ourselves the opportunity to see these unconscious desires for what they truly are (a legitimate need for comfort or security) rather than judging ourselves harshly, we open up a route to self-understanding and lasting change ๐

I've never been a big advocate of needing a gym to train.
That belief comes from my time in the army, where access to a gym wasn't always guaranteed.
When we didn't have the luxury of 'proper' equipment, we made do with whatever we could find - jerry cans, spare rope, rucksacks filled with rocks, etc.
Training for me wasn't about fancy machines but getting the work done with whatever was available.
That same philosophy runs through my coaching programmes today.
Strength, endurance, and grit don't come from a perfect setup - they come from using what you have and pushing yourself outside your comfort zone.
My clients train in garages, fields, back gardens, and wherever possible, proving that real-world strength isn't built in a controlled environment but in the beauty of adapting and overcoming.
Here are five of the best and craziest things my clients use for training, no gym required:

Over a decade of coaching, I've repeatedly encountered a common challenge among my clients - self-sabotage.
It presents itself in various forms - over-exercising, procrastination, inconsistent habits, frustration, and sometimes even giving up just as things start looking up.
When you dig a bit deeper, you begin to notice familiar patterns.
Self-sabotage isnโt just a random occurrence, nor is it simply a lack of discipline or willpower; more often than not, it stems from a missed opportunity to pause and reflect on what's truly happening beneath the surface.
After years of helping clients break free from these cycles of behavioural dysregulation, I've discovered that asking four pivotal questions can make a significant difference.
While these questions may seem straightforward, their true power lies in how they encourage you to step away from automatic responses and make more intentional choices.

When I left the Army, I assumed the stress would be left behind...
No more screaming in my face, no sudden changes to future plans, and no gruelling training that pushed me to the brink.
But what I didnโt realise was that my body had become addicted to the stress hormones (like cortisol) that had fuelled me for years.
That addiction followed me into civilian life.
I sought out that same chemical rush without even realising it - through overtraining, getting into fights, and always keeping myself mega busy.
My body wasnโt ready to let go of the stress, and it controlled my actions more than I cared to admit at the time.
I could finally break the cycle when I learned about how our actions, behaviours, and beliefs are tied to these chemical patterns.
Then, when I started practising self-awareness, resetting those habits, and shifting how I responded to challenges, I was able to regain control
Over time, I moved away from the constant pull of stress and focused on living a happier, purpose-led life.
This journey became the foundation of my behavioural dysregulation coaching programme.
I created it to help others trapped in cycles of never-ending self-sabotage...
So, if you find yourself constantly stressed or overwhelmed by even the small things, itโs not a sign of weakness - itโs your body telling you that something isn't quite right.
