So after a week of celebrations for our league trophies, we can finally round up the brilliant end to our season…🏏💙
Last Saturday our 1XI took to the pitch for our final game of 2021! So here is how our last game went…
All’s well that ends well
Broad Oak XI took to the pitch against Shepley for their final game of the season.
With the prospect of finishing the season with 4 wins out of 4, Broad Oak fielded a strong side despite the start of the football season.
Broad Oak lost the toss and found themselves bowling first for the fourth time in a row. Starting us off, Alistair “the Scottish power” Snowdon took 1 for 43 off his 8 overs. Ally was supported strongly by young Harry Gee, making his second first XI appearance of the season. After noticing that seam wasn’t working, Dom Finn turned to Harvey “Pamela” Anderson to begin the spin attack. With the ball turning square, Harvey took 2-31 off 6 before further spin was brought on in the form of Jack “Miceman” Hargreaves. With the sounds of “Caravan of Love” whistling through his ears, Hargreaves ragged it past the Shepley line up and picked up 4/25 off 6. Finally, third spinner Daniel “Douglas” Taylor picked up the remaining spoils with a 3/18 off 5. A fine finish to his season with 57 wickets in all competitions. This left Broad Oak requiring 146 off 40 overs.
Now, many people have seen Charlie Roebuck score runs quickly but the run chase flashed past Shepley’s eyes. In a mere 12 overs, Broad Oak smashed 151, with Charlie “slogger” Roebuck scoring an unbeaten 100 and Sean “plodder” Mee chipping in with a slow and stead 38. A great finish to the season and some promising performances in the last few games to set the tone going into next year.
We ended this season as we always do, at the oak with our favourite people, plenty of drink was had, plenty of questionable dancing was on display and PLENTY of sore heads the morning after when we all had to make it up to our family day🙄🤯💙🍺
Keep your eyes peeled for info over our winter months!👀

JUNIOR NEWS💙🏏
Here is our 2nd day of amazing news coming from our juniors!👊🏻🔵
Today’s shoutout goes to our very own U15s star Harry Gee who last week won the U15s League catching prize at last weeks League Presentation!🏆🏏
A little something from Harry’s coach at the oak…
“Harry has grown throughout the season and winning the catching prize is a small reward for what’s been a great season. Harry gained figures of 5-0 against golcar with all 5 cleaned bowled in a under 15 game and broke into senior teams early on. His willingness to learn and improve is a great testament to Harry. He impressed in the second team and junior cricket, which earned a first team debut against Mirfield parish, where he claimed his first wicket at that level. Certainly one to watch in the future and it’s been a pleasure to help Harry grow into a fine young man”
Everyone at the oak would like to say a huge well done to you Harry on this amazing achievement, it’s such a pleasure to have you representing us on that field each week💙
We are incredibly proud of all our juniors this season, we have some of the greatest lads and lasses coming through and it’s amazing to see! Keep your eyes peeled for our 3rd day of exciting news tomorrow👀🏏🏆💙

JUNIOR NEWS💙🏏
Before we wrap up this season, we have a few junior shoutouts over the next few days and news to celebrate!
The first of our celebrations is for Awais who has won the U17s best all rounder league award at last weeks junior league presentation!💙
A little something from Awais’ coach at the oak…
“Awais has worked very hard this season and I am chuffed to bits for him winning the all rounder award. He has generally concentrated on his batting during his time at Broad Oak but his bowling has improved this season and he has been a great ‘weapon’ to bring on just when the opposition think they have seen off the openers and are in for an easier time! His slower ball is particularly tricky! He has also taken some amazing catches this season and his overall contribution is a big factor in us almost winning the under 17 league.
I am certain his last season as a junior in 2022 will be another outstanding one, I suspect he will have his eye on the top batsman award”
Everyone at the oak would like to congratulate Awais on this fantastic achievement, a pleasure to have you representing the oak. Keep your eyes peeled for celebration number 2 tomorrow…👀🏏🏆💙

2XI Season cut short🏏💙
On Saturday, our 2XI took on Shepley CC in what was to be their last game of the season (unfortunately their last game this weekend has been cancelled due to the away side being unable to raise a side).
Broad Oak bowled first and restricted Shepley to a score of 152 all out from 38.1 overs. Wickets mainly came from Issy Ahmed (5-30) and Liam Moran (2-6) with the remaining 3 wickets shared out between Brad Caufield, Nick Howard and Ian Hall.
Unfortunately, despite starts from Awais Ahmed (20), Joshua Winnard (19) and Brad Caufield (17) the team struggled to make headway against the Shepley attack, finishing on 89 all out.
Maybe not the end to the season they would have liked but with a COVID effected season and a new look side with many fresh young Junior faces, they will be looking forward to building on this years positives and hitting the ground running after the off-season. With some great prospects coming through the ranks we are confident the side will go from strength the strength.
