It also plays a role in regulating consciousness, sleep, and attention.In the context of trauma, the thalamus can be impacted in a few different ways. For example: 1-Hyperarousal: Trauma can lead to a state of hyperarousal, where the body is constantly on high alert, even in the absence of an actual threat. This can cause the thalamus to become overactive, leading to an exaggerated response to sensory input and potentially contributing to symptoms like hypervigilance, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. 2-Reduced activation: In some cases, trauma can lead to a reduction in thalamic activation. This can lead to a decreased ability to filter out irrelevant sensory information, which can contribute to symptoms like distractibility, poor concentration, and sensory overload. 3-Structural changes: Trauma can also cause structural changes in the brain, including the thalamus.
