Lindley Swifts U16’s 20-12 Stanningley U16’s 30/05/2026

Today saw arguably the top 2 teams in the league lock horns for the 3rd time this season with the young swifts looking for some retribution for 2 defeats earlier in the season.

The game kicked off as expected between 2 top teams defending strongly, trading set for set with neither team taking a backward step. The home team were the first to take advantage though as the ball moved quickly through our half backs ‘Hoody’ and ‘Dyseboy’ out to the edge to allow Riley Lovelady to finish a great move 4-0. Kick off saw a knock on from Lindley who defended the next set well, but resulted in a drop out under the sticks. Up stepped Javae Cupples Tinker to contest and win the kick and charge 70m upfield before tipping on to Adam ‘ the hot steppa’ Foster to cross the white wash 10-0. Minutes later Stanningley finally broke the defensive line to score 10-6 half time.

The half time regroup seemed to spur the boys on and after good defensive pressure and 2 errors from Stanningley our outstanding fullback Kyron ‘Offiah’ Parchment rocked up on the left edge to score 14-6. The away team came out firing and started making good meters upfield through their pack but the U16’s held out well. Again sets were traded for the next 10 mins as expected from 2 great teams before set restarts took their toll and we conceded a try 14-12. This set up a grandstand finish with tiredness staring to creep in so did the errors. Great goal line d first saw Stanningley knock on, scrum on the 10m line with 1 minute to go. A knock on from the base of the scrum saw the swifts facing 1 last attacking play. The away team had to go for it and attacked our right edge throwing a massive pass straight into the arms of Riley Lovelady to scorch the turf and score a full length try. Final score 20-12.

What a game, what a performance! These young men have been building something special lately cementing their place as one of the best teams in the league!

Mom - Kyron ‘Offiah’ Parchment-Today this lad showed why he is so highly rated. His kick returns gained massive metres, scored a great try and saved the game with an unbelievable try saving cover tackle.

Oppo - Lucas ‘Big Boy’ Foster- Coaches described him as a menace cutting through the line like a knife through butter with an energetic defensive performance.

Players player - Riley Lovelady- 2 great tries from the elusive back showing how integral this young man has been to the swifts this season.

Also welcome back Mr T and Marcus Tooth from long term injuries fitting back into the team as if they had never been gone!

Next weeks match looks like it’s going to be postponed so please keep your eye out for a possible friendly incoming.

Lindley Swifts U16’s 48-0 Keighley Albion U16’s

Sunday saw the U16’s looking to avenge an early season defeat to the away team and keep our momentum going.

Kick off started with with a massive defensive effort from the home team and after a set for set trade the away team knocked on. From the resulting scrum Lucas ‘big boy’ Foster shot out of the back of the scrum engaged the defence and offload to Javae Cupples Tinker to race away to score 6-0. 3 minutes late Big Foz again attacked the line tipping on to Javae who set up Adam ‘the hot steppa’ Foster to score in the corner 12-0. The game then turned into a war of attrition with neither side taking a backwards step. After a great kick through and defensive pressure from Riley Lovelady the away team had to drop out from their own goal line. Up stepped Nico niccy boy no no knutton to utilise some great carries to scoot from the ruck and score 18-0 half time.

The 2nd half kicked off with another impressive defensive effort resulting in another goal line drop out which sailed out on the full…10m penalty! A great lead line from Oliver ‘oc Crowther saw him crash over the whitewash 24-0. Again from kick off ‘Big Foz’ attacked and broke the defensive line this time offloading the to Wil ‘Dyseyboy’ Dyson to set up Javae to round the winger and score 30-0. The pressure started to show on the away team and after a knock on the lads picked up the ball and fed it down the right edge for Riley Lovelady to run over the defender and score 36-0. Another 5 minutes graft saw the away team defending their try line to no avail as Zane Horsefall shot out of the ruck again to score 42-0. A solid defensive line was causing havoc and after another mistake the resulting home team scrum had Dexter ‘Hoody’ hood smartly tipping on to Kyron ‘Offiah’ Parchment to be as elusive as usual and beat numerous tackles and score under the sticks, final score 48-0.

Key words today were to keep connected, next job and concentration which the boys did to great aplomb to make it 4 wins on the bounce!

Mom-Nathan ‘Jamesey’ Erhisinere- Coaches really liked his effort today recording his best performance so far this season.

Oppo- Dexter ‘Hoody’Hood- Feedback said they really liked his organisation of the team around the pitch including an exemplary 8-8 conversions.

Players player- Javae Cupples Tinker- Another stand out performance from the back rower grabbing another brace along the way.

We now take a small break with the GCSEs exams ongoing, we are still training Thursdays before taking on table topping Stanningley. Good luck to all our boys in their exams over the next month and thank you again for your continued support! A reminder that all raffle tickets handed out to the players need to be paid ASAP as the draw is next week!

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Keith Valerio, Keith was instrumental in our club’s resurgence in 1992 and was part of the coaching staff that led to the monumental Yorkshire cup victory in 2000 and glory years around this period, Keith was a soft spoken man with a heart of gold and stayed on at the club after this for many years as secretary and also helping out where he could on match days. He will always hold a place in our memory at Lindley. RIP Keith. All funeral arrangements will be added when we have more details for anyone who would like to show there condolences 🔴⚪️⚫️
