The 1sts had another successful Sunday, and the 2nds stayed on top of the ladder, as we wrap up the weekend's senior results thanks to Bolster Moor Farm Shop.

It was an action packed day at Swallow Lane on Saturday; after a delayed start anticipating a 35 over game, we had a further delay after a few balls reared off a length. This meant a new wicket had to be prepared for a T20 - and I don't think anyone thought there would be 360 runs on it at that point! Even moreso after Skelmanthorpe fell to 3/3, but an outstanding innings from Watson (97 off 39 balls) with support from Schwartz (50 from 42) left us second favourites at halfway.

Max Turner blazed three boundaries from his first three balls, then got out off the fourth. We were sniffing around the rate, but it was the entry of Ruscoe at 68/3 that changed the game - Bullet hit 66 off 24 balls, 62 of them coming from boundaries. Suddenly we were favourites, and with 31 needed from the last four overs, we really should have taken the points. But we lost five wickets for 8 runs after the dismissal of Whitwam, and ended up having to console ourselves with 2 points.

The 2nds were the beneficiaries of a collapse, as they looked in some trouble defending their 202. Jack Rothery was the main person to thank for that total, but a few others chipped in; the elder Howson (21), Gash (19) and Smith (19*) all making contributions alongside Will North.

One of the most noteworthy parts of the defence were the four run outs, as some overenthusiastic running provided some opportunities for breakthroughs - but they still have to be taken. Falconio and Smith were their usual miserly selves, but the youth followed up their batting efforts with all the wickets as well!

On Sunday we had a Sykes Cup Quarter Final at Almondbury Wesleyans. Another see-sawing affair, where we won the toss and two batsmen were back in the shed for three runs. But from there, Jacob Mulhall & James North put on 168 to put us in a very strong position going into the last fifteen overs. After a little wobble, Ruscoe was back at it again, smashing 61 from 26 balls - only a measly 54 coming in boundaries this time - as he put on 93 with Whitwam (57 off 51). We set a challenging score, but on a small ground and a good wicket there was always going to be some more twists.

The target was reduced to 321 off 46 overs after a shower between innings', and at drinks Wesleyans were well ahead; only losing one wicket and more than half the runs accounted for. But after Whipp dismissed Sharma, Max Turner came back for a three over spell that changed the game, taking three wickets and we had two new batsmen at the crease. A double strike made things harder for the home team, before Turner came back for one last blast, taking two more wickets to end with six, interspersed with a run out due to a superb bit of fielding from Ruscoe.

A big week of female cricket up at the club this week, kicking off tonight, as we let you know what's on at Swallow Lane thanks to Bolster Moor Farm Shop.

We are hosting the U11 Girls Tournament tonight, in a similar format to how the Saturday morning U9 tournaments are conducted. Best of luck to Eleanor, Amy and the girls tonight!

There is also a Ladies Tournament on Sunday, as eight different teams will descend from midday onwards for a bunch of games - two of those teams being our own. It will be great to see plenty of people down at the club, we have a few things in the pipeline! It should make for a great day.

Also, a big shout out about junior training - bring some yellow, and get ready for some kids vs parent matches as we raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

A big Saturday for both the 1sts & 2nds, with the local derby against Slawit taking place at Golcar, while the 1sts head to Armitage Bridge looking for a much needed win.
