π Phoenix 25/26 - Season Close
In addition to the successes of our Men's 1s & 2s, we have been building something special with the Women's and Girls this year.
The Phoenix started the year with a rugby bootcamp attended by 4 people and ended with a full-contact 15-a-side fixture in front of a home crowd of all our friends and family.
A total of 56 players have worn our jersey this year over a series of 17 competitive fixtures, earning 44 tries, 19 conversions, 2 yellow cards and an extensive use of the club physio. We were also described in another team's write up as "well established" which was a welcome if not quite true suprise.
Our local university side, the have contributed greatly with 16 students playing for us this year, many playing rugby for the first time. We hope to continue building upon this relationship for many years to come.
We would also like to thank and recognise and for their help and support this season. They have played a huge part in our development either as teammates or opponents, enabling hundreds of women to play our amazing sport.
In March, we also relaunched our girls provision - the - With the U10s and U12s already growing to 20+ members already, we now look to be a fortunate position where we won't immediately lose our talented girls to other clubs once the boys and girls split at U12s level.
Thank you to everyone who has played their part for the Phoenix this year - volunteers, club staff, officials, sponsors, supporters, opposition and most importantly, the players, for buying into our journey when there was only a dream.
We will be continuing in the IWS next year, building upon our foundations with a view to enter the NC3 league in 27/28 for the first time in our history.
We've got a fantastic team of coaches aboard in Dan, Mark and Mason, a new look player leadership team and an engagement committee full of ideas we're excited to see.
We hope you continue to join us into the next chapter.

π Captain's Season Closing Remarks 25/26
Sarah T (C)
What a year itβs been. In summer last year when five of us went to join our friends Burley to play in a 7s tournament, we could only have dreamed of bringing rugby to HRUFC consistently; but we did it. It hasnβt been easy, but itβs been incredible.
Itβs been an honour to represent this amazing group as captain, and Iβm so proud to be passing on the reins to Hannah, Tinners and Holli. Ladies, I know youβll be incredible and Iβm so excited to see how far you can take us.
Sarah, I couldnβt have done it without you.
Itβs only the beginning.
Sarah M (VC)
Watching this team grow and develop in the 2025/26 season has been an absolute pleasure.
From being 1 of only 4 at my first session with the team, to having over 50 women play for us in the 17 games organised by Dan is beyond incredible, and it makes me wonder what else this team is capable of.
We've come on in leaps and bounds in my time as Vice Captain and in the capable hands of our new committee, I have no doubt that we'll continue to shine all the way to NC3 and beyond.

π Player of the Year - Sarah Thorpe
Player of the Year is determined by a lot of factors such as attendance, performance, coach and opposition feedback and engagement with the Phoenix community.
Several members were worthy of the award but discussions amongst key figures led to one particular name.
This is what one of her teammates said - "They are one of the most hardest working and consistent players. She has really set the standard on how we play rugby and lifted others up a lot."
Sarah earned Opposition's player in all three of our games against EMP and twice earned Forward of the match whilst clustering for other teams (despite being our 9/10), seeing that she is also recognised by other teams for her impact.
She has worked closely with the coaches this year to develop our attacking style, playing in positions she didn't want to in order to empower her teammates and leading from the front as Phoenix captain.

π Player's Player - Hannah Cox & Sarah Thorpe
This year's player's player award was tied between two key members of the Phoenix.
Hannah joined us last summer, dancing her way through the forwards pack until she found a home at tight head. An incredibly powerful player either with the ball or without it, she dominates anything she puts her mind to.
Sarah bounced between 9 and 10 this season, playing a pivotal role in distributing the ball. She sets incredibly high standards for herself anytime we are together and makes every effort to bring others with her.
They have both been rightly recognised by their peers for the value they bring to the team and fully deserve their player's player award.

π Most Improved Player - Emma Moore
Emma is another person who immediately became obsessed with rugby, playing her first game of touch rugby last August and contact 3 weeks later.
Starting the season on the wing but wanting a bit more action, Emma transitioned to flanker and hasn't looked back since, thriving with the newfound responsibilities of the pack.
Emma is always striving to be better and puts 100% of her heart onto the pitch, placing her as a fantastic role model to the Phoenix and Firebirds.

π Young Player of the Year - Chloe
Chloe has really grown into a tackle machine this year, regularly stopping people twice her size when she has no right to be.
She's also a huge threat in attack, either as an outside centre or winger, scoring 5 tries throughout the season.
For her first year in the sport, Chloe has really bought into being a Phoenix and is fully deserving of this award.
