What an amazing week of physical activities with so many children. On Monday, it was the 4EverActive day at Moor End Academy for all of year 4 from Oak Primary. Mount Pleasant Primary and Beaumont Primary schools. The 7 activities were led by fantastic leaders from Moor End Academy.
On Tuesday, it was the same event for year 4 from Newsome Junior and Hillside Primary schools with some great leaders from Newsome Academy.
Thursday afternoon was spent at Mount Pleasant Primary school running their year 2 sports day. This was such good fun and so well organised by Ms Samuels. Lovely to see so many parents supporting their children.
Today (Friday), it is the 4EverActive day at Longley Community Sports Club for all year 4 children from Grange Moor, Kirkheaton, Lepton and Rowley Lane primary schools. It is so hot, but the children have come prepared with water bottles, hats and sun cream and have had a fantastic time.
This is my last ever event after 23 years supporting children to develop a love of physical activity and to understand why they must keep active.
I have spent 37 years working in physical education in various places and held a variety of roles. I have loved my career and will miss seeing children happily participating in physical activity, but I know that I am leaving it all in very good hands.
Good luck to Laura Coulson, Rick Fox, Tanya Broadbent and Eleanor Smith who are all amazing people and have put up with me for a number of years!
I hope that all schools will continue to support children to be physically active and to join in with the School Games and SPIN activities in the future.
Next week, I have a lot of organising and decluttering to do as well as confirming a new host school for the team.
Thanks to everyone with whom I have worked over the last 37 years!πŸ₯³β˜€οΈβš½οΈπŸ…πŸπŸ₯πŸš΄πŸ½πŸŽ³πŸπŸ₯ŽπŸŒοΈπŸ§—β›³οΈπŸ‘β›ΈοΈ

What a fantastic day of rounders for year 6 from Scissett MS, Kirkburton MS, Rowley Lane School, Lepton CE school and y5 from Beaumont Primary. Scissett MS provided a fantastic venue with 5 pitches. The young leaders from Scissett MS were amazing as always and did all of the umpiring throughout the day. There were some very close matches, but the eventual winners were one of the teams from Kirkburton MS, with teams from Scissett MS taking 2nd and 3rd places. Thanks to Miss Crossley at Scissett MS who sorted out all of the pitches, leaders and 5 teams! - an amazing feat. Thanks to all staff who organised the children and those who supported them on the day. Well done everyone πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ₯³β˜€οΈ

πŸ“’ afPE is delighted to be welcoming the announcement today from the Prime Minister about the future of PE and school sport. After last week's positive news on the PE and School Sport Premium, this announcement marks a milestone, changing the game for the experiences of young people in schools across the country. afPE, along with our colleagues and partners from across the sector has long called for not just more investment, but also better coordination and a more systematic and consistent approach to ensuring quality.

What a fantastic day it was on Friday last week at Kirkheaton Cricket Club. 13 teams from the following schools took part in the SPIN U11 girls’ cricket competition: Kirkheaton PS, Kirkburton MS, Scissett MS, Hillside PS, Hill View Academy, Oak PS, Rowley Lane J,I&N, Lepton CE, Beaumont.
All of the girls were amazing and supported each other in many different ways both on and off the pitch. There was some great cricket played and it was amazing to see how the standard has improved over the last few years.
The umpires, all girls, were from Kirkburton MS and all did a great job throughout the day.
Many congratulations to Lepton CE who were the winners, beating Kirkburton MS in the final. Hill View Academy finished in 3rd place for the Bronze medals.
Next Monday sees Kirkheaton CC host the SPIN U11 open tournament which is for boys and girls.
Fingers crossed for another day full of sunshine and great cricket.
Thanks to Kirkheaton Primary School for their support with this event.
If you have a child who is interested in playing more cricket, Huddersfield has a great junior set up and there are loads of clubs in this area so please encourage your child to join up and enjoy the club atmosphere.🏏

It’s a very sad day for myself and my excellent team. We have worked well with Newsome Academy for 23 years, but sadly the containers with all our equipment in have had to be moved off the site. We are still based at Newsome, but this is certainly going to make work a lot more challenging.😒

Tuesday saw the Kirklees KS2 panathlon event held at Longley Community Sports Club. 13 teams from the following schools took part in either the morning or the afternoon session: Kirkheaton PS, Scissett MS, Roberttown JS, Howard Park PS, Rowley Lane PS, Boothroyd PS, Newsome Junior Academy, Netherhall LCJS, Marsden JS, Kirkburton MS, Hill View Academy, Mount Pleasant PS. All of the children had a fantastic time and received a certificate and a medal for their efforts. A team of young leaders from Newsome Academy officiated the activities and did a fantastic job, really doing themselves and the school proud. Many thanks to Howard from Panathlon UK for running the event and to One 17 design for sponsoring the event. Congratulations to Scissett MS who won the morning event and Marsden JS who won the afternoon event. Both schools have been invited to attend the WY final.

On Monday, there was a girls' football festival and and FA disability football talent identification session for young people with SEND. It was great to see so many young people enjoying either of the events at The Sports Barn, Leeds Rd, Huddersfield. I hope that everyone was inspired to play more football, particularly during the holidays and in the warmer weather. The following schools attended one or both of the 2 sessions: Scissett MS, Newsome Academy, Roberttown, Milestones, St Mary's, Westmoor.

I am trying to find someone who has a tractor and a flat bed trailer that could transport 4 x 20’
shipping containers (1 at a time)from Newsome Academy to Almondbury on Friday 4th April. I have someone who can put the containers onto the flat bed trailer but the destination is in a field and he doesn’t think his lorry will be able to get across it. If anyone knows of someone who may be able to help, please let me know.
I am really desperate for help as the school has insisted that they must be moved on Friday. The containers will be empty. Many thanks
