Nice to have some of my University of Huddersfield Students' Union team students at last night's No-Strings Badminton session. They were glad to be there as there were no sessions at the university this week due to graduation ceremonies ☺️

Another fantastic day at Bradford University for the end of season Varsity tournament last Wednesday. Huddersfield University retained the annual challenge trophy narrowly beating Bradford 8 - 7 overall. The Mens and Womens Badminton teams crucially contributed to this by getting their maximum 2 points. WELL DONE to them and ALL of our teams competing and also Bradford for hosting the tournament. We'll be hosting the 2025 tournament and look forwards to retaining it again for a "Hat trick" of wins 🎊💪💪💪

Our end of season Varsity championships Vs Bradford University approaches next week on Wednesday. We are the current holders of the trophy however this time we are away to Bradford who would be more than keen to sn**ch it back as hosts. Our Mens and Womens badminton teams are ready to take the challenge to give Huddersfield University the best possible chance by contributing maximum points towards the overall total. GO HUDDERSFIELD !! 💪💪👏👏👍

Brilliant weekend during the Universities National Championships at the EIS Sheffield recently for our team. Our singles and Mixed didn't go through the latter rounds however our Mens and Womens Doubles reached the main draw (4th round) during qualification. Previously we didn't even get through the 1st Round...a MASSIVE improvement due to the influx of two very good players in the Mens and Womens this year. We lost out in the end against the 3rd seeds for both Mens and Womens😅 This success along with our Mens 1 team winning the Tier 5 league this season has given Huddersfield University a real boost and incentive for the next season. Plans are already underway to advertise our success in the University press and social media networks to encourage more members to join the Badminton club. WELL DONE TEAM !!!!!!👍💪💪👏👏

Tonight's Thursday No-Strings Badminton session at Huddersfield Leisure Centre. I have run these Thursday and Wednesday sessions (7pm-8pm) for two years now since Covid and am glad to say that our members have thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a community club open to everyone of all ages and ability where the players accommodate each other to ensure a good ambience at the club. Recently we have had an advance player from Thailand who attended for around 15 weeks. Sadly however she will be going home next week. Kao Pod , we have enjoyed having your good company in our club and hope this photo would be a souvenir 👍 for a good send off . We wish you all the best for the future 😊👌

Our "No-Strings Badminton" community clubs on Wednesday and Thursday evenings are becoming more popular. This is largely due to our message that anyone could apply to join regardless of skill levels in a relaxed, non-competitive ambience. It's a happy and safe place to re-start your badminton and build your skills, should you wish with tips available from a qualified coach/co-ordinator. Feel free to contact me on [email protected] should you wish to attend. Wednesdays are 8pm-9pm (until the end of August), Thursdays 7pm-8pm.Both clubs are in the "small hall" until the end of August. We will return to the main hall after that with 7pm starts for both Weds and Thurs as usual👍

Good news for badminton coaching opportunities; National Badminton are setting up classes for juniors and adults in Huddersfield from September 2023.
For the moment they have booked sessions for juniors and adults at,
Huddersfield Leisure Centre ( Coach: Zainal Muhammad)
Saturdays 9,16,23,30 Sep 10am-11am (Ages 7-10),11am -12noon (Ages 11-14),12Noon-13:00 (Adults)

Colne Valley High School (Coach : Zainal Muhammad)
Fridays 8,15,22,29 September
6pm-7pm (Ages 7-14, adults please contact via email if this slot suits)

All of the above are available to book via their website and I attach the flyer above.
If adults or juniors are interested at venues that aren't on their website then please contact National Badminton via email , [email protected] and they will log on the query to try and accommodate you.

There is a £2.50 booking fee with 2 FREE sessions on offer in September if you register now ( so you pay £18.50 for 4 sessions instead of £32)

What a week and a half it's been 😁Huddersfield University hosted their annual Varsity Games 2023 recently. It was the Annual Varsity Cup challenge against Bradford University and was played over 3 days 24,25,26 April where we contested 16 sport activities at four separate venues. Bradford won it last year so we were hungry to get it back !! ✊I thoroughly enjoyed my first Varsity experience as a coach travelling from venue to venue supporting our teams in what was a "buzzing" atmosphere👏Unfortunately I had other badminton commitments during the 3 days so I couldn't attend ALL of them. I was especially proud of my badminton teams where the Mens won 5-3 and the Womens 8-0 which contributed 2 valuable points towards our final triumph over Bradford 11-7 to take back the cup. GO HUDDERSFIELD! .To top this, our current President of the Badminton Club Isabelle just took the "Sports Club committee Member of the Year" award tonight at the awards ceremony...Yeah..what a WEEK AND A HALF !!👏👏💪💪
