Ilkley Golf Club

Ilkley Golf Club One of England's top 100 courses. With a par of 69 and standard scratch of 70, this 6262 yard course is a great deal more difficult than it might first appear.

Testament to this is the fact that the course record for a professional is only 64 and was set in 2000 by honorary life member Colin Montgomerie, one of the best golfers in the world.

A special treat for Sue and Richard Greenhough, last year’s winners of the Montgomerie Salver, as they were presented with the trophy by Colin Montgomerie during his hosting of the SGH Sporting Events Yorkshire Invitational at Ilkley.

The Salver was presented to the club by Colin’s father, Jim Montgomerie, when he was Captain in 1979. Colin’s mother, Elizabeth, followed as Lady Captain the following year.

The ever-popular mixed foursomes knockout competition continues to attract a fantastic entry each year — a fitting tribute to the Montgomerie family’s long-standing connection with the club.

It was a pleasure catching up with Colin Montgomerie after his round at this week’s SGH Sporting Events Yorkshire Invitational.

It was wonderful to hear Colin’s kind words about the course and his enduring affection for Ilkley Golf Club, as well as his nostalgic recollections of the time he spent here; learning the game and honing his skills before heading off to university in the States.

From those early days at Ilkley to becoming one of the world’s leading golfers, it was fantastic to hear Colin reflect on the club’s place in his journey.

Former Arsenal and England right back, Lee Dixon, prepares to take on the 14th at Ilkley Golf Club having just negotiated the tricky Alister Mackenzie-designed 13th in very windy conditions.

He was one of the celebrity captains taking part in the SGH Sporting Events, Yorkshire Invitational which was also raising funds for Martin House Children's Hospice.

It was a pleasure to welcome Dame Laura Davies to Ilkley Golf Club for the SGH Sporting Events Yorkshire Invitational.

A true legend of the game, Laura is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame and Britain’s most successful female golfer, with four Major Championship victories and a record seven European Order of Merit titles to her name.

We caught up with Laura after her second round, following a busy few days that saw her celebrate a fantastic Solheim Cup victory in the Netherlands.

It was a privilege to see her play golf at Ilkley.

It's been a fantastic couple of days at the SGH Sporting Events' Yorkshire Invitational at Ilkley.

The event culminated in a thrilling professional tournament, played in strong, blustery winds and the occasional shower. Conditions that really tested the players.

Congrats to the winner, Chris Hanson, who finished with an excellent 2-under, and to runner-up Oliver Fisher, who finished 1-under..

It was fantastic to welcome legendary star of rugby league and rugby union, Jason Robinson OBE, as one of the captains in the celebrity pro-am in the SGH Sporting Events Yorkshire Invitational at Ilkley Golf Club yesterday.

Well done to Howard Rishton from Clitheroe Golf Club on a fabulous hole-in-one at the 15th hole in the SGH Sporting Events Yorkshire Invitational.

Howard hit the perfect six iron into a strong wind.

This is his second ace having scored his first on the Legends Tour in La Manga.

Day two of the SGH Sporting Events Yorkshire Invitational is underway at Ilkley today.

After a fun day yesterday with a host of sporting celebrities, the serious stuff starts today with the professionals, including Colin Montgomerie and Dame Laura Davies competing for the top prize.
