Kick off for Eric and Blake who are visiting from the States and headed out for a warm up day with Siobhan prior to a three night expedition into the Cairngorms. A squally day to test the waterproofs on Meall a Bhuchaille but some views into the Cairngorms and where the expedition is heading.

Today marks the start of meteorological autumn which means winter is getting closer. A few shots from the Cairngorms, Ben Nevis and the North West Highlands during winger. Fingers crossed for a few day like these over the coming winter.

Not quite as dry and bright as yesterday. A bit of drizzle and clag for Anna and Anthea who headed into to tick of Sgùrr a Mhadaidh and Sgùrr a Ghreadaidh with James. Good fun nonetheless though and some more Cuillin summits done.

James was out today with Anna and Anthea in the Cuillin. The opted not for a wet bivvy instead going for a big day making it from Sgurr nan Eag to Sgùrr na Banachdich with the Munros between.

A last hurrah before home in the wild North. Will, Bianca, Jo and I headed North and to big country in Samburu. A spectacular region spreading from Mt Kenya to Ethiopia and Somalia a vast expanse of bush and big crags. We had an explore from Johns excellent newly established Saranto Camp. Perfectly situated between the Cat and the Mouse. We climbed around the Mouse on the Mouse and over at the Kirche valley crags with some new lines and established lines climbed.
For us though that’s a wrap in Kenya for now and back for a busy September in the Highlands followed perhaps by the best winter in living memory!

The message here for mountaineering is it’s fun. There may be plenty of learning on courses but perhaps the overriding reason to go into the mountains is to have an adventure and enjoy it. All our winter & summer courses are delivered by passionate and experienced climbers and mountaineers outside their work. Things brings plenty of real experience to their instruction. No one enjoys a boring course which is why we like to get out into the mountains where the real experience can be gained. You can’t learn to ride a bike unless you get on a bike, we aim to put the skills we deliver into practice getting to summits as often as possible with plenty of experienced instruction along the way and of course having fun to!

It’s been a busy summer here are a few smiling and often sunny shots. People out enjoying plenty of guiding and instruction throughout the Highlands. We have a busy run for the last part of the summer coming up and hopefully some more sunshine before the snow comes.

Although we want people to leave our winter skills courses with some new found skills and confidence. We do want to stress that it takes more than a skills course to be proficient in the mountains, the next step is to take those skills and steadily build the experience and create a strong base of skills to operate. The more broad that base of knowledge and confidence is your skills the more ambitions can grow. Our skills courses always finish by chatting through some good next objectives to move on with and keep building a strong base.
