We are firm believers that foursomes is the best format in golf, so after lunch on Monday we decided to add a little extra nonsense to the mix: 8-ball foursomes.

It is organised chaos, of course, but in the best possible way. From a pace-of-play point of view it keeps things moving, and socially it is a brilliant way to get everyone around the course together.

It went down a storm at The Addington Golf Club and is almost certainly something we will keep up our sleeve for future events.

The most dramatic golfing landscape you have never heard of?

📍 Corrie Golf Club, Isle of Arran.

The Addington Golf Club was the perfect playground for a funky format and course set-up at our Summer Meeting on Monday, and boy did Course Manager Jonathan deliver.

Four greens featured a red pin worth double points, tempting attendees into answering questions they probably did not have the answers to. All the while, it showed off the brilliant green complexes, sharp bunkering and acres of short grass that make them so fun.

The best way to experience Corrie is chronologically, so you can enjoy one of the great surprises in golf on the 2nd tee.

Don’t be followed by the dainty clubhouse or the unassuming opener. This place is fantastic.

One of the smaller jobs that still feels like a proper pinch-me moment is getting to photograph FootJoy special releases.

We were admirers of classic FootJoys long before we had any association with them, so getting a look at new releases before they reach the wider golfing world, and then having the chance to capture them, is always a real treat.

As ever, they have absolutely nailed it with the Todd Snyder collaboration.

Mondays don’t come much better than looping The Addington, heaps of pizza, burgers, beer, rosĂ© and music on the hill by the fire, before heading back out for an 11-hole whisky loop with fresh pins in 8-ball foursomes.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our Spring Meeting, Titleist UK & Ireland and FootJoy Europe for supporting, and to the team at The Add for a truly outrageous course set-up that showed the place off at its very best.

The Curtis Cup has just finished at Bel-Air and the US Open returns to Shinnecock this week, but attention now turns to two of England’s finest links.

Royal Liverpool hosts The Amateur Championship this week, with West Lancs co-hosting the stroke play - two clubs with deep ties to the event.

It’s US Open week, which makes it the perfect time to brush up on Shinnecock Hills and the man who shaped the course we know today: William Flynn.

Last week’s episodes looked closely at Flynn’s life and career, from his childhood through to his work for some of America’s wealthiest families, and the courses that helped define his reputation.

Consider it your homework before the first tee shot.

The Curtis Cup is underway, and there is ample opportunity to watch the best women amateurs compete at Bel-Air Country Club on Sky this weekend.

It brings back memories of the 2024 edition at Sunningdale, which gave us a quite wonderful weekend of golf. To whet the appetite for this year’s match, our Amateur Correspondent Hugo Cornell has put pen to paper.
